Welcome, ghost hunters, to week 1 of the OwlCrate Jr Cassidy Blake series read-along! This is a SPOILER discussion for chapters 1 - 14 of City of Ghosts. The story so far...
Cassidy Blake sees ghosts. Ever since she was pulled out of a river by a boy a year ago, Cassidy (and her “corporeally challenged” best friend Jacob), she has been able to pull back the Veil and enter the world of spirits. And just when she thought she was going to have a relaxing summer vacation at the beach, her parents instead whisk her away on a summer tour to some of the most haunted places in the world to film their tv show, The Inspecters. First stop? Edinburgh, Scotland. 

Landing in the City of Ghosts, Cassidy immediately feels how truly haunted Edinburgh is. Everywhere she turns, she is confronted with another spirit grabbing her attention. When she is suddenly pulled into the Veil, she stumbles across a ghost in a bright red cloak and an uncomfortable fixation for Cassidy. But perhaps most shocking of all is meeting Lara Chowdhury, a girl who’s staying in the same lodging house as Cassidy and her family, and a self-proclaimed ghost hunter.

Question 1: Cassidy’s parents have so far visited many haunted locations, including Greyfriars Kirkyard, Mary King’s Close, and the South Bridge Vaults. Which place would you want to visit first on your ghost hunting expedition?

Question 4 - FOR NEW READERS: When Cassidy pulls back the Veil, she notes that there’s a “cool, blue-white brightness” shining through her ribs. When we see Lara beyond the Veil, she instead has a warmer, “rose-tinted” light. What do you think these lights are, and why are Cassidy’s and Lara’s different?
