The story concludes...

Chapter 29:
The police arrive to interview the members of Godwin House about Clara’s whereabouts. When it is Ellis’ turn Felicity searches her room to try to find the forged letter but comes up with nothing. It is revealed that Felicity dragged Alex’s body from the lake and buried her beneath Godwin House.

Chapter 30:
Police search the house and after they leave Ellis says they need to talk. She found the letter Felicity tried to forge in her writing. They both lunge for Ellis’ épée, but Ellis is faster. She ends up cutting Felicity’s cheek. Kajal comes into the house calling to see if anyone is there and Felicity tells Ellis that she’s going to have to kill her another time.

Chapter 31:
Felicity’s mother shows up at Godwin to try to get her to go back to the hospital again. Felicity outright refuses and tells her to leave.

The police are now searching for a body, and with the fresh snow it seems like they won’t be finding Clara for a while, if ever. Laying on her bedroom floor Felicity hears Ellis picking her locked door. She scrambles and unlaces one of her running shoes to use the lace as a weapon. The door opens a crack but after a minute Ellis leaves.

Chapter 32:
Felicity plans a Night Migration and gets Ellis to meet her in the dark on the library roof. She pushes her off and hears her hit the ground. Felicity leaves through the back, never wanting to see Ellis again.

Chapter 33:
They find the note Felicity forged in Ellis’ hand right after they find her body. No one suspects Felicity of anything and are now giving her pity. The morning Felicity is set to leave for Ellis’ funeral she sits on the edge of the lake with the Margery Skull. Eventually she wades in and lets the skull sink.

After Ellis’ service her moms try to give Felicity Ellis’ manuscript, but Felicity has no interest in reading it. She sets it on the ground and leaves.

Three Years Later:
Felicity is living and attending school in London. On the way home from class she wanders into a bookstore and finds Avocet - Ellis’ posthumously published work. The dedication reads “For Felicity - I did it all for you.” Ellis drops the book and flees the bookstore back to her flat and her girlfriend. They take their dinner up to the roof and stand at the edge looking out over the city. It begins to snow.

Questions:

  1. Well that was a wild ride! Did you see the end coming? What surprised you the most?
  2. Which scene in the book was your favorite?
  3. Felicity was definitely an unreliable narrator. Do you have any other books with unreliable narrators to recommend?

Thank you for participating in the readalong, everyone! See you next time!
