Amber and I are BACK this June for a fun new readalong! We're about to start our monthly discussion for our May "Against All Odds" book, Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross!

As a reminder, from now on, our monthly discussions will be both here on the OwlCrate blog AND on The Nest

On each day we'll read a section of Divine Rivals both on the blog and in The Nest's group, and then discuss in the comments our theories and predictions. This means there will be spoilers for each section! Beware!

Just a reminder that this will be a SPOILER discussion for chapters 29-34 of Divine Rivals, so make sure you read are finished this section before continuing.

Find your discussion questions below, and find LOTS more on The Nest!

We are onto Part 3 at at the war's front lines...

Chapter 29

Iris has to spend the three hour drive to the front sitting on Roman's lap because there is only one seat.

When she and Roman arrive at the last town before the front lines they meet Lieutenant Lark who shows them the lay of the land and tells them how to keep safe, as safe as they can, near the fighting at the front.

They spend one last night and set to marching with a platoon to the communication trench the next day. While marching, Iris asks about Dacre's hounds and eithrals and learns that if the hounds are leashed they're expected to go into a bunker.

Iris and Roman head down to the communication bunker. She feels Carver's unread letter in her pocket and opens to read it but Roman keeps distracting her, sending notes back and forth until his last one reads that the boy she's been writing to doesn't deserve her and thinks she's perfect.

Chapter 30

Iris and Roman head down to the communication bunker. She feels Carver's unread letter in her pocket and opens it to read it, but, Roman keeps distracting her, sending notes back and forth until his last one reads that the boy she's been writing to doesn't deserve her and thinks she's perfect.

Chapter 31

In the afternoon the winds start to howl and shells and mortar come falling harder, shaking the earth.

Roman covers Iris from it and then tells her to get her bag, they need to move. A wall of smoke was rising on the western wind and coming for them. A grenade falls between them and they are blown apart from each other.

Chapter 32

Iris comes to and screams for Kitt. She finds him wounded with his right leg full of shrapnel. Roman tells Iris to grab his bag and leave him there but she refuses. Iris enlists a Private to help carry Roman and they tell her that they need to hurry as the enemy has taken the front trenches.

Iris sees the Captain that brought them to the front and they get Roman on the lorry before Iris is asked to assist with the other wounded. She promises to find Kitt and then begins assisting the Captain.

Iris finds Romans' bag and then gets on the lorry. She sees Lieutenant Lark. Lark tells her about signing up for the war with friends from their hometown and tells Iris that after today, they're the only one left.

Iris weeps.

Chapter 33

Iris gets back to the infirmary and finds Attie. Marisol is looking for her and they encourage her to go home and rest. When she wakes up she immediately thinks about Carver's letter and reads it. After she sees the language used she realizes that Carver...

Is Roman.

Chapter 34

Iris walks into the infirmary ten minutes after reading Roman/Carver's letter and goes to Kitt. She confronts him about deceiving her and he admits that he kept writing, initially because it was a prank but then it became something more. He explained that while he didn't give her his real name, nothing else he ever told her was a lie.

Iris turns to leave but Roman gets up to stop her. He explains that his middle name is Carver and weaves his hands through her hair before giving her a swoon worthy kiss.

Iris is still upset (understandably) and lays out all of Carver's letters to reread them. She realizes that Roman was trying to tell her the truth and that she loves him. But she's afraid to love someone again, afraid to lose them.

That Chapter 34, though....see you tomorrow my friends! Happy reading!
