'Omen Of Ice' Book Club Readalong Day 4!

By: Jordan Fleming

Amber and I are BACK this September for a fun new readalong! We're about to start our monthly discussion for our August YA book, Omen Of Ice by Jus Accardo!

As a reminder, from now on, our monthly discussions will be both here on the OwlCrate blog AND on The Nest! Go check out Amber's discussion that will be full of fun extras like bookish charades, shelf scavenger hunts and coloring pages!

On each day we'll read a section of Omen Of Ice, both on the blog and in The Nest's group, and then discuss in the comments our theories and predictions. This means there will be spoilers for each section! Beware!

Just a reminder that this will be a SPOILER discussion for chapters 16-20 of Omen Of Ice, so make sure you read or are finished this section before continuing.

I'm back to square one. The only thing I'm certain of is that they will probably kiss.

Chapter Sixteen (Valen):

Valen encourages Keltania to hurry as they pack for a journey to see her druid leader. He hopes that she can break their connection as Lord Obrik now wants Keltania dead.

Liani comes to his quarters to encourage him to hurry and promises Valen that she will tell the pursuing guards that they have gone north instead of to Ventin.

They get to the gate and Kopic lets them through on foot. They cannot take a horse due to the terrain. Valen warns Keltania about the wild animals they may encounter and they take shelter up in a tree for the night.

Chapter Seventeen (Keltania):

Keltania awakens to see that Valen has taken the form of his wolf. He turns back into a man and they continue their journey on foot.

Keltania is cold and tired and Valen tells her tales of the other Fae lands. They argue and flirt a little. Keltania is then attacked by a tragon and it lifts her into the air. It carries Keltania away and Valen shifts with his wolf. Keltania takes her sword and swipes at the tragon. It drops her and falls onto it's back. Valen freezes it and Keltania tells him they need to run but Valen is engrossed in his magic.

Suddenly the tragon breaks free and charges for them.

Chapter Eighteen (Valen):

Valen makes the tragon slip on ice and plunges a sword into it. Keltania is upset and they realize that they are sharing one another's skills as well. They walk half a day and after awhile discuss Valen's magic and her training as an Aphelian. They camp without a fire at the end of the day and sleep fitfully.

In the morning they eat a few apples and discuss the history and prophecy of the first Aphelian and her fae lord Servis. They finish talking and begin walking again.

Chapter Nineteen (Keltania):

Valen and Keltania come upon a sassy talking rabbit. They thank the rabbit, thinking that it means that there is a troll and a bridge ahead. Walking along, Keltania and Valen argue and flirt more about their fae and druid differences.

Keltania tells Valen she will never fall in love with him and then they hear a booming voice say "I could love you, little fae".

Chapter Twenty (Valen):

Two massive trolls stand on a bridge and demand a toll from Valen and Keltania. They have not seen fae or human in a long time and they ask them to procure a golden chest from a kelpie in order to cross the bridge. Keltania tells them that she will obtain this chest for them.

They go to the lake with the kelp and Keltania converses with it. Daroose, the kelpie agrees to go with them with the chest as long as it can have what is inside so that he can leave the lake. Daroose tells them that his necklace, that he uses to travel freely is inside the chest and that he's been trapped for 600 years.

Keltania says they have a deal.

 Questions:

  1. 🏃‍♀️Do you think running was the only way out? I’m still a tad skeptical of Laini, are you?
  2.

🐯Would you want to communicate with an animal?  Which one?
  3. 🤔 Would you make a deak with a kelpie?
