The story so far...

After a lot of running (and huffing and puffing on Kiki’s part), Kiki and Lej stop running and wait for Ashwini to catch up to them. Lej tells Kiki that when Mahishasura made her world real, his magic filled in all the gaps that her sketches didn’t fill - like his existence, for example. Ashwini catches up and they all set off on a mission to break the gandaberunda’s golden eye. Only problem is it is being guarded 24/7 by flying Asuras AND Kiki created an impassable labyrinth within Mysore Palace that leads to the statue. Whoops. Just when they attempt to enter the palace, Lej makes one misstep and their way into the palace is blocked - which means that Kiki is going to have to find another way.

Ashwini and Lej take Kiki to a town square where there is a statue of Kiki (GROAN). Kiki had forgotten about drawing that. It turns out Mahishasura hates the statue but for some reason is unable to touch or destroy it. They set off to the headquarters of the Crows and Kiki gets a tour of the house, and meets none other than her childhood imaginary friend, Pip, who isn’t so imaginary after all! After some breakfast Kiki is finally able to have a bath and get some sleep, but after what feels like only minutes she is awoken by the roar of a lion!

Turns out that the lion belongs to the goddess Chamundeshwari, and she and Vishnu have come to convince Kiki to destroy Mahishasura once and for all, not just destroy the gandaberunda’s golden eye. Chamundeshiwari and Simha (the talking lion) are going to stay in Mysore to help Kiki and her friends in their new mission. The group decides to stick to plan A (as in destroy the gandaberunda’s golden eye) and Kiki thinks they should find the Good Witch - a character she sketched and had forgotten about. A witch had been the one to put a protection spell on the palace, so maybe the Good Witch would be able to remove it.

They head to the roof of the house to train, and it turns out that Kiki is really bad at this warrior thing. She completely fails to use every weapon available, which is incredibly frustrating. Lej gets angry at her for not being more useful, but just then an Asura lands on the canopy of the roof. Luckily, the house protects the Crows, but it’s too close for comfort!

That night Kiki is visited by Jojo, Pip, Suki and Samara in her room once everyone else has gone to bed. They are keen to remind her that not all warriors use sword and little girls can fight back!

Yes! Kids can fight back! So excited to see what out heroes get up to next!

Questions:

  1. Do you think Kiki is going to use her art to battle Mahishasura. If so, how will she do so?
  2. What would be your weapon of choice if you were a warrior? Think outside the box!
  3. Do you think sticking to Plan A (aka destroy the gandaberunda’s golden eye) is a good idea even though that's not what Vishnu wants?
  4. Do you think the castle in the sky is going to be important to the story? What do you think it contains?

See you again on Monday as we discuss Chapters 14 - 22!
