Emily Majarian (she/they) is a half-British, half-Turkish-Armenian freelance digital artist and illustrator who grew up in Istanbul and is currently based in Staffordshire, UK. When she first started her journey as an artist, she created pen & pencil drawings that she scanned in and colored digitally, but nowadays she works entirely digitally on Clip Studio Paint with a (very old) Wacom tablet.

To date, she has worked on a range of projects, including vinyl album covers, posters, graphic novels, and even board games. In her free time, she enjoys reading (especially classic ghost stories), listening to podcasts, and handspinning on her spinning wheel to make yarn, which she uses for knitting.

Where do you find inspiration
for your designs?

I tend to feel the most inspired while digging through artwork from illustrators whose work I admire. Claire Wendling's artwork has been a constant source of inspiration to me since I discovered her work in my first year of university, and I own as many of her art books as I've been able to get my hands on. I also particularly love fairy tales and children's book illustrations. I could look at the work of Lefler, Dulac, Frank Adams, or Thomas Crane for hours and never get bored!

Do you have a favorite piece of art you've created to date? What makes it special to you?

I always feel like my favourite piece of art is whatever I'm currently working on, as it tends to take up all of my thoughts until it's done. That said, I'm probably happiest with a piece I created that was inspired by Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti. It's the closest I've come so far in translating the image I had in my head into a final piece. I refer back to it sometimes when a piece isn't coming together how I'd like it to or if I have trouble tapping into my usual stylistic choices.

What are some of your favorite
books or authors?

My most reread book is probably The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. I'm a big fan of horror literature, whether gothic, folk, cosmic, or comedic. I'll read anything from Michael McDowell, Susanna Clarke, or Andrew Michael Hurley.
