Metallic Realms by Lincoln Michel was our August 2025 ‘Galaxy Encounters’ Sci-Fi book choice. This book is equal parts Science Fiction Fantasy and Speculative Fiction.

Metallic Realms is a genre-bending story about friendship, Science Fiction, toxic fandoms, and the importance of creating art. Michael Lincoln is a heavily flawed, chronically single, oblivious Sci-Fi enthusiast who has dedicated his life to two goals. The first goal is to get the Star Rot Chronicles published. It is, after all, the greatest science fiction multiverse ever created. Plus, it just happens to be written by his best (and only) friend along with a group of other dysfunctional Brooklyn writers that call themselves the Orb 4. The second goal is to join the rest of the writing group and create art along with them. The only problem is that interpersonal dramas keep threatening to tear the group apart. Can Michael’s schemes keep the Orb 4 together? Most importantly, can Michael’s plans grant him membership in the Orb 4?

Features for this OwlCrate Edition:

“I think art is what makes life worth living.”
