Twilight by Stephanie Meyer became an instant hit in the mid-aughts. Spanning four main books, two reimagining, and one novella, Twilight remains a favourite for readers of all ages.
So, in what order should you read the books in the Twilight Saga?
According to Storygraph, pick up Twilight first, followed by Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined, New Moon, Eclipse, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, Breaking Dawn, and finally Midnight Sun is the way to go.
Personally, my preferred order is Twilight, Midnight Sun, New Moon, Eclipse, The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner, Breaking Dawn, and then Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined for spoilers in the later books. Whichever way you choose to read the saga is up to you, but I highly recommend you read it if you haven't already.
If you love vampires and werewolves, here are seven books (and series) like Twilight for when you finish reading and don’t know what to pick up next.
These Vampire and Werewolf Stories Are Similar To Twilight In One Way Or Another
The Hollows series by Kim Harrison
Spice Level: None
“Sweet Mother of Tinker Bell!”
Content Warnings (may contain spoilers):
Murder, violence, blood, confinement, stalking, sexual violence, death of a parent, rape, and drug use (this list might not include all the content covered in the book. Please do your own research before reading.)
The Hallows series by Kim Harrison is an urban fantasy made up of eighteen novels, one prequel, and multiple short stories. If you enjoy stories with vampires and other supernatural creatures, I can’t recommend this series enough. Besides vampires, both undead and living, as well as werewolves, the series also has witches, trolls, pixies, fairies, and leprechauns (elves no longer exist.)
Book one, Dead Witch Walking, follows Rachel, a bounty hunter. Her job ensures the Hallows (what we call Cincinnati) remains functioning in a more civilized manner. She captures a leprechaun who offers her three wishes in exchange for freedom. Rachel agrees to the deal, and suddenly her life takes a turn she never expected.
This series will be the perfect next read for those who love adventure and fantasy, but perhaps want a break from romance.
Innkeeper Chronicles by Ilona Andrews
Spice Level: 🌶 (Extra Mild)
“I suggest you give up now. According to my research, in a vampire-werewolf love triangle, the vampire always gets the girl.”
Content Warnings (may contain spoilers):
Animal death, violence, blood, gore, injury/injury detail, death, war, cannibalism, and colonialism (this list might not include all the content covered in the book. Please do your own research before reading.)
Give Innkeeper Chronicles (a five-book and one novella series) by Ilona Andrews a chance if a blend of science fiction and fantasy sounds more like your jam.
This series follows Dina Demille, who owns an inn and seems perfectly typical... Except that her inn houses an intergalactic retired noble and is a place of neutrality for the various universes in existence.
Dina finds herself drawn to both a werewolf and a vampire in book one: Clean Sweep. The stakes are high throughout this story, as she attempts to keep her inn open and works to solve the mystery of what creature is hunting and murdering at night.
For fans of love triangles, mysteries (including what happened to her parents), and lots of excellent batter, the Innkeeper Chronicles is sure to be everything you've been waiting to read.
Glimmer Falls series by Sarah Hawley
Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶🌶 (Hot)
“And really, every good couple should have a soft one and a stabby one.”
Content Warnings (may contain spoilers):
Sexual content, toxic friendship, blood, violence, panic attacks/disorders, gaslighting, death of a parent, murder, and torture (this list might not include all the content covered in the book. Please do your own research before reading.)
For readers who want their fantasy with a large dose of rom-com, I recommend the Glimmer Falls series by Sarah Hawley. Each book focuses on a specific romance. While there is some continuity, you can jump into later books with only minor spoilers.
A Werewolf’s Guide to Seducing a Vampire, book 3, has a hilarious premise. Our MMC, Ben Rosewood, gets drunk at a wedding (relatable, really) and, upon returning home, he drunkenly bids $0.99 on eBay for a talisman that contains a sexy conjuring rock.
He promptly forgets this bid, so when the rock appears on his step, he’s more than a little confused. Turns out he’s now the owner of a succubus vampire with mega trust issues. What follows is a hilarious slow burn, reverse grumpy/sunshine, and an examination of loneliness.
Bride by Ali Hazelwood
Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶🌶 (Hot)
“What I am is an adult woman with agency and the tools to make choices. Feel free to, you know, treat me accordingly.”
Content Warnings (may contain spoilers):
Sexual content, blood, kidnapping, violence, death of a parent, abandonment, death, war, and confinement (this list might not include all the content covered in the book. Please do your own research before reading.)
Bride by Ali Hazelwood is another interconnected standalone in an unfinished series, with little commitment required. This book is perfect for those who crave a book full of excellent banter, slow-burning, and enemies-to-lovers romance between a vampyre and a werewolf.
Bride follows Misery Lark, daughter of a powerful vampyre. Bride begins on her wedding day to the Alpha of a werewolf pack, Lowe Moreland. They both possess their own reasons for this marriage, and Misery isn’t going to give up on her plans, even if this means a lonely marriage.
Misery is used to being an outcast, so when she finds herself continuing this life in her marriage, she thinks nothing of it. Except that Lowe starts to pay more attention to her, and she befriends Lowe’s younger sister. Perhaps this vampyre won’t be alone forever?
The next book in this series, Mate, was published in October 2025. It's set in the same universe but follows new characters. I highly recommend reading this one as well!
I Bite She Sucks by Penelope Bloom
Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶🌶 (Hot)
“Because some part of me felt sure that if I read enough happily ever afters, it’d be easier to accept that I was never going to get my own.”
Content Warnings (may contain spoilers):
Sexual content, violence, blood, gun violence, injury/injury detail, and chronic illness (this list might not include all the content covered in the book. Please do your own research before reading.)
If reading a standalone vampire and werewolf romance is more your thing, add I Bite She Sucks by Penelope Bloom to your TBR list.
This book is full of banter, reluctant feelings, and a strong female main character who isn't afraid to tell the former Alpha when he’s being rude. I also really liked how there's a very realistic portrayal of a person with a chronic illness in this book.
I Bite She Sucks follows Sylvie, a human extraordinaire. She spends her days waiting for book deliveries and staring out her window. Because of her compromised immune system, she rarely leaves her house and uses hand sanitizer by the gallons.
When her cat accidentally knocks a love letter out of her window, her life is never the same. Riggs, a werewolf, comes to her (and her sister’s) rescue and keeps them safe from vampires who are set on killing them.
Bound series by Cynthia Eden
Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶🌶.🌶 (Hot - Extra Hot)
“The killing would have to wait. Because, ah, first, she’d have to marry her alpha wolf.”
Content Warnings (may contain spoilers):
Blood, violence, death, and sexual content (this list might not include all the content covered in the book. Please do your own research before reading.)
If a paranormal romance series with five books (including some that are less than a hundred pages) sounds like your kind of thing, then check out the Bound series by Cynthia Eden.
Beyond werewolves and vampires, the series has witches and demons as well. Each book is an interconnected standalone, which works great if you want to take a break from the series in between books.
Book 1, Bound by Blood, follows Alpha werewolf Jace and pureblood vampire princess Morgan. They’ve agreed to a marriage to ensure their people stand together against the demons who want to destroy their world. But what happens when these two fall in love for real?
This book is full of spice and tension and perfect for anyone needing some paranormal spice.
Hot Vampire Next Door (or Secrets Drenched in Blood) by Nikki St. Crowe
Spice Level: 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 (Extra Hot)
“But I’m realizing now that being bitten isn’t a one-size-fits all thing.”
Content Warnings (may contain spoilers):
Sexual content, blood, violence, gore, alcohol, death of a parent, vomit, and war (this list might not include all the content covered in the book. Please do your own research before reading.)
Hot Vampire Next Door (or Secrets Drenched in Blood) by Nikki St. Crowe wastes no time in introducing readers to Midnight Harbor, a town that contains every supernatural creature (at least in the US). Besides werewolves and vampires, witches, humans, and trapped fae also call Midnight home.
With five books totalling about seven hundred pages, this KU series introduces a high-stakes plot with lots of spice.
Jessie, a human, is biding her time until she can put Midnight Harbor behind her. She dreams of a life as a typical human elsewhere, maybe even attending college.
All she can look forward to in Midnight is her twenty-first birthday, where she’ll swear a blood oath to one of the vampire families. But when vampire Bran Duval, the younger and more reckless Duval brother, moves in next door, Jessie’s life turns upside-down. As secrets begin to reveal themselves, soon Bran wants to claim Jessie as his...
Your time with vampire and werewolf romance books doesn’t need to end just because you've come to the end of the Twilight saga. Plenty more amazing books and series exist for any mood, so why not give them a chance? Perhaps you’ll find another one to love as much as the books Stephanie Meyer wrote.
