Five Fantasy Series For When One Book Just Isn’t Enough

By Stephanie Lottes

Sometimes one book just isn't enough. When you find yourself looking to escape to an amazing world that spans many books, reach for one of these fantasy series that will keep you wanting more.

Fantasy Series Worth Getting Lost In

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

This well-known series by Sarah J. Maas is popular among readers on BookTok and beyond, making it a great choice for anyone looking to get into fantasy and avid readers searching for a romantasy series with Fae.

I was initially drawn to this series years ago, when I was looking to get into the fantasy genre, because of the amazing world in it. In ACOTAR, Velaris, home to the Fae, is divided into different courts—Night, Day, Dawn, Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter—each with its own unique atmosphere that makes for a fun read.

While drawing inspiration from Beauty and the Beast, the first book quickly establishes its own unique narrative. As the series goes on, it just keeps on getting better and better. I really loved the incorporation of both the enemies-to-lovers and fated mates tropes throughout and how the books explored themes of found family and self-discovery.

Once you finish the ACOTAR series, you might want to check out other books similar to it, and this article has some great recommendations.

The Folk of Air by Holly Black

Romantasy is having its moment right now, making this series a great choice for anyone wanting to explore the subgenre. The Folk of Air follows Jude, a human who gets her life turned upside down in the first book along with Carden, a fae and the High King of Elfhame.

Each character in the story has their own unique motivations and interesting dynamics, adding to the fantasy world in some way. The world-building is impressive, seamlessly blending Elfhame and the Human World allowing characters to go back and forth between the two.

Empyrean by Rebecca Yarros

Empyrean a wildly popular New Adult series caught my eye because of the hype surrounding Fourth Wing and I read it to see if it lived up to the expectations. If you're after a fantasy book with dragons that are just as lively as the human characters within it, this series is for you.

I must say I really enjoyed this series and I think that Basgiath War College provided an interesting setting, and I enjoyed the unique dynamics within the different student quadrants. Enemies to lovers and forced proximity tropes can be found throughout the series and I loved all the characters in this book, especially Violet, our strong and independent protagonist who takes control of her life.

The fast-paced storyline, driven by the impending war at the military college, is sure to keep you hooked from start to finish. With three books in the series and more to come, you’ll have plenty to read.

The Legend Cycle by Tracy Deonn

The Legend Cycle offers a modern take on Arthurian legend, with elements of magical realism included throughout the series. Our protagonist Bree is a young girl attending a college prep program at her mother's old college while grappling with her death. During her time at the college, she’s able to learn more about her mother, the magic in her family and the power she possesses.

I really loved how this series had the chose one tripe and incorporated plant magic into the storyline. With the upcoming release of Oathbound in March 2025, now is the perfect time check this series out.

Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina (Comics) by Various

I thought including a comic series as part of this blog would be cool. Although I initially discovered Critical Role through the TV show and Twitch stream, the comics are a great entry point into this world.

The story follows Vox Machina, a group of adventurers on a quest, featuring a diverse group with different personalities. The world-bulding is excellent and the fun stories include a little romance and humor as well as the found family trope. If you love Dungeons & Dragons, this one’s for you.

Stephanie has been blogging about books for five years now. She loves Romance, YA, Fantasy, Middle Grade, and Graphic Novels and recently she’s been getting into Sci-fi. When she’s not reading, she loves musicals, DND/TTRPG’s Disney, video games, and movies/TV shows.
