Beach Essentials: Summer Romance Reads
Wild Love by Elsie Silver
In Wild Love, we meet Forbes acclaimed World’s Hottest Billionaire, Ford Grant, who is dreaming of opening a recording studio in small town Rose Hill, away from the press that hounds him in his own town.
But when he’s confronted by a young girl claiming that he’s her father, his plans fall through. He finds himself caring for his daughter, balancing business, and trying to keep away the girl he loves: his best friend’s sister, Rosie.
Rosie returns to town after years of living in the city and is in need of a job—something that Ford can’t say no to. He tries to keep his distance from her, knowing she should be off limits despite their chemistry, but he just can’t say no to her…
Elsie Silver writes an unputdownable, steamy, passionate romance that is worth reading this summer.
Here We Go Again by Alison Cochrun
Here We Go Again tells the story of Logan Maletis and Rosemary Hale, old childhood best friends, who drifted apart following an incident the summer before they started high school, which led them to become sworn enemies.
Fast forward to the present: Logan and Rosemary are now in their thirties, both teaching at their old school and feeling unfulfilled in life. Moreover, despite their efforts to avoid each other, they keep colliding—sometimes literally.
But when their terminally ill former English teacher asks them to join him on a cross-country road trip, they can’t refuse.
The trio embarks on a life-changing journey across the U.S., which could change their futures and possibly rekindle what they once had.
Alison Cochrun is an expert at writing funny yet heart wrenching queer rom-coms, and this story is no exception.
A Novel Love Story by Ashley Poston
A romantasy at its core, A Novel Love Story follows romance novel lover and English Lit professor, Eileen Merriweather, through an unlikely tale of events.
On the way to her annual book club retreat, Eileen’s car breaks down midway, and she finds herself in Eloraton, a town that is the setting of one of her favorite fictional romance series, which was left unfinished.
Stuck in this story, Eileen meets a moody bookstore owner, Anders, who poses difficulty in her plans to give this town the happy ending it deserves. Even so, she can’t stop thinking about him—his dazzling minty eyes, his impossibly gorgeous mouth, even his grumpiness. She soon realizes that Eloraton’s love story may in fact be linked to her own…
With a shocking (but happy!) plot twist, Ashley Poston has written the perfect book to read on hot summer days.
Seven Summers by Paige Toon
Seven Summers follows two love stories over the span of seven summers. Six summers ago, Liv and Finn met in Cornwall, with their bright, promising futures ahead of them.
After spending a passionate night together, things end tragically, but Finn must return to life in Los Angeles with his band. He makes a promise that he will return every year, and the two will spend each summer together.
Fast forward to this summer, and Liv meets Tom, a new, mysterious arrival in her small town. Slowly, the two fall for each other, and Liv is sure that her heart may remain unbroken for once.
She has to make a decision, which is made even harder when she discovers the reason why Tom ran away from his home…
With amazing twists and turns, Paige Toon delivers a raw, heartbreaking, epic love story that you don’t want to miss.
Rosie and the Dreamboat by Sally Thorne
In Rosie and the Dreamboat, we meet Rosie Whittaker, who is gearing up for a Galentine’s spa session with her sister. But her relaxation is cut short when Rosie finds herself in her typical predicament, getting locked inside a flotation tank.
Enter the firefighter who comes to Rosie’s rescue. All she has to judge him by is a gentle voice and an incredibly flirtatious sense of humor, but this may just be enough for her. He sounds kind, patient, and flirty—could he be who she’s been waiting for her entire life?
This story is a rom-com lover’s dream and encapsulates everything we love about Sally Thorne’s writing—the sweetness, the humor, the steam.
Just For The Summer by Abbey Jimenez
One of 2024’s best-ranking books already, Just For The Summer, unfolds the story of Justin and Emma’s bad luck. Justin believes he’s cursed, with every woman he dates proceeding to find their soulmate as soon as they break up. Thanks to a Reddit thread, his story has gone viral, leading Emma to reach out to him with the same problem!
The two decide that they’ll date just for the summer, then break up, and then their curses will be lifted. A perfect, convenient idea—until Emma’s controlling mother turns up and Justin finds himself having to take care of his three siblings.
So much more is happening than the couple expected, including developing real feelings for one another…
With rave reviews pouring in for Abbey Jimenez’s heartfelt storytelling and engaging writing, you’ll want to make time to read this book this summer.
Funny Story by Emily Henry
One of my most anticipated reads this year, Funny Story follows a cunning love story between Daphne and Miles. The two live very different lives, and after both of them are dumped by their childhood best friend exes, Peter and Petra, who marry each other instead, Daphne finds herself without anywhere to go, and Miles welcomes her into his home.
Fueled by heartbreak and anger, they plot to make Peter and Petra jealous by pretending to be a couple. But they never expected to actually fall for each other, and they won't... right?
Emily Henry is an absolute genius at creating a story that has a funny (pun intended) plot but is actually genuine and, above all else, romantic. This one doesn’t disappoint!
My Favorite Mistake by Marian Keyes
My Favorite Mistake finds main character Anna in a minor midlife crisis, and she’s unhappy with her life. Though perfect from the outside—she has an apartment in New York, a loving partner (overly loving), and a great job—she can’t help but shake the feeling it’s not the life for her.
So Anna moves to a tiny Irish town, Maumtully, to help her old friends set up a luxury coastal resort. The plan isn’t smooth sailing, however, as the locals hate the plan. This doesn’t phase Anna, but what does phase her is the reappearance of her old flame, Joey, who is going to be her wingman.
The two must put their history to one side and accept that no matter how far you travel, you can’t escape your mistakes.
With decades of experience in writing romance novels, Marian Keyes knows exactly what we want and how to deliver it—buckle up for tears, laughter, heartache, and even mystery.
Cross The Line by Simone Soltani
One for Formula One fans, Cross The Line follows F1 driver Dev Anderson, whose career is on the line. After a social media fiasco, his team and sponsors are both angry and threatening to walk out on him.
He needs someone to save his reputation, and he knows just the girl for it—except she is his best friend’s little sister. And they kissed last year. And he hasn’t stopped thinking about it since.
Willow Williams is in desperate need of a job, so when Dev offers to hire her, she can’t say no, even though she’s had a crush on him since childhood.
But they know better and are determined to keep things professional, despite their feelings and history.
The world of F1 is tense, and when the stakes are this high, who knows what will happen? With the sports and brother’s best friend tropes executed so perfectly, you’d never believe this sizzling, steamy story is Silmone Soltani’s debut.
Talking At Night by Claire Daverley
With its UK paperback release this June, Talking At Night tells the tragically romantic story of Will and Rosie, who met as teenagers. They are complete opposites: Rosie anxiously overthinks everything, and Will is wild and unpredictable (and Rosie’s twin brother’s friend).
Despite the odds, from their secret walks together to their late-night phone calls, with time, they become closer. They are destined to be together until tragedy strikes one day and everything they've known comes crashing down.
Years later, Will and Rosie somehow navigate their way back to each other, coming close to rekindling their previous love, but it isn’t easy when the one you should forget is the one you love the most.
A story of love lost and love found, Claire Daverley captures the messy realities of teen romance with a beautiful portrayal of how love will always prevail, even after years.
