Mina doesn’t know where she belongs. As half-human and half-vampire, neither world feels entirely like home. Then her abusive father does the unthinkable and sells her to an ancient vampire in return for political power.
Malachi, the vampire to whom Mina now belongs, hasn’t fed in a very, very long time, and their first meeting is far from perfect. Yet as they spend more time together, Mina realizes there’s more to Malachi than his fear-inducing reputation.
When Wolf and Rylan, Malachi’s best friends and lovers, enter the equation, Mina realizes there’s no use fighting the bond that is bringing them all together, and she’ll do whatever is necessary to bring down her father once and for all.
*Waves hand in front of face* This book is STEAMY with ample sex and biting. You’ve heard of smut with no plot, but what about smut with a plot that is also smut?
If you’re a fan of Katee Robert, not much should surprise you in this book, though there are parts that can be a bit repetitive, considering this book was originally three separate novellas that would remind you of the plot when you picked up the next installment.
Court of the Vampire Queen is the very definition of a moody, dark, and sensual vampire romance, which explains its popularity and why it’s so highly recommended on BookTok and beyond.
The Fang Arrangement by Sarah Blue
CW (may contain spoilers):
sexual content, blood (including during intercourse), violence, murder (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
Read This Book If You Enjoy:Vampire x Witch, Fated Mates, Secret History, Mutual Pining, Touch Her and Die
Eight years ago, Ember walked into a vampire bar, a place no witch should be. A point quickly proved when she was dragged to the back office of the owner, Warin. Strangely, all he wanted was a taste of her blood, just a drop, which she gave after binding him to a magical contract that stated he would never hurt her.
What she didn’t, however, remember was that Warin extracted his own magical vow before erasing her memory, which stated that Ember would never forget the pull between them and that when the time was right, he’d be back to collect her.
When an ancient, powerful vampire is killed in front of her, Warin has the freedom and leverage to bring his fated mate back into his life. In order to keep her safe from the vampire council, Ember agrees to be his on-call witch for whatever spells he may need, and she must do her best to resist the charms of this immortal vampire before she ruins her coven and herself.
I adore this series! It’s full of vampires, witches, and werewolves… Fated mates and demons taking over human bodies… Talking bats and raccoon familiars. I mean, what more could you need?
Sarah Blue does a great job balancing conflicts with major stakes (lol) along with fun, light-hearted banter. Don’t get me started on the yearning (“How many times have I seen her smile, wishing that I was the reason why?”) and adoration (“I am yours, even if you never let me have you. You are everything to me”). The push-and-pull between Ember and Warin will make you laugh out loud, and then you’ll be kicking your feet and squealing when the most romantic things ever said come out of Warin’s mouth.
And let’s not forget the spice! Goodness, does Warin have a dirty mouth. You’ll love this book for its heart, and you’ll want to devour the entire series because the three witches at the heart of it are the kind of friends everyone wishes for.
I Accidentally Hooked up with a Vampire by Jessica Cage
CW (may contain spoilers):
Sexual Content, Blood, Violence, Kidnapping, Fatphobia (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
Read This Book If You Enjoy: Vampire x Human, One Night Stand Turned More, Hidden World, Urban Fantasy, Found Family
Due to circumstances beyond her control, Whitney loses her dream job right after signing a mortgage. A night of celebrating her best friend, some good drinks, and hooking up with a handsome stranger (Domino) is the momentary cure for her entire life falling apart.
Instead of helping, though, Whitney’s encounter with Domino makes her life more complicated, seeing as he’s a vampire, and his attention brings more than just a night full of passion to her front door.
Now she’s having to deal with other vampires trying to get her “special” blood, an attraction to an immortal man, and relearning everything she thought she knew about herself and her friends.
Jessica Cage does a great job dropping you right into the thick of the plot. Her books are fast-paced, genuinely funny (“That’s what happens when you’re not a girl’s girl! May her lace never melt and her scalp always itch!”), and don’t take themselves too seriously.
This is a great book and series for when you want to be taken away to another world and leave your everyday stress behind. I would especially recommend the audiobook because the narrator adds another layer of fun and entertainment to the story.
I haven’t read the first book in this series yet (despite it being on my TBR for ages), but I didn’t find myself confused at any point during this story full of vampires, witches, demons, aliens, and werewolves as well as multiple different universes. I really enjoyed how Cage effortlessly works all of that into contemporary life, in a way that feels natural and makes you think twice about whether your neighbor is actually a vampire (or another paranormal being). I’m eager to dive into the other books and continue exploring this world!
Bride by Ali Hazelwood
CW (may contain spoilers):
Sexual Content, Blood, Death, Kidnapping, Violence, Attempted Murder/Poisoning, Toxic Family Relationship (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
Read This Book If You Enjoy: Vampire x Werewolf, Omegaverse
Misery is a vampyre that’s been used as a pawn by her politically powerful father for her entire life. She grew up as the only vampyre among humans, knowing that her life could be taken at any moment by the people who raised her.
Now she’s an adult living as a human in the human world, determined to never return to the toxic vampyre society that cast her out so easily. Then one of her father’s henchmen shows up at her office and she’s whisked away to once again put her life on the line, but this time in werewolf territory as a bride of the pack’s alpha.
The pack doesn’t like her, no more than the humans from her childhood or the vampyres she tried to reintegrate with, and least of all her new husband. But there’s a werewolf faction that’s determined to take over the pack, and Misery might be the secret weapon they’ve needed all along, and maybe, just maybe, she’s been horribly wrong about her husband’s feelings towards her.
I couldn’t talk about vampire romances without mentioning the illustrious Ali Hazelwood’s foray into paranormal romance. Bride not only brought elements of the omegaverse to the traditional publishing world, but it also reimagined the common vampire and werewolf lore we’ve all grown to love.
Despite not being a vampire or facing the imminent threat of murder every day of my life, I really related to Misery. She’s never felt a sense of belonging except with her best friend (who goes missing at the beginning of the story), and while she tries to be content with the life she’s created for herself, she still puts her life on the line for her community and later for the pack.
I also adored the slow burn between Misery and Lowe. The tension between the two was truly spectacular. If you’ve read some of Ali Hazelwood’s books in the past but are yet to make the jump from her contemporary romances over to the paranormal side, consider this your sign! You’re sure to fall in love and there’s one more book waiting for you in this duology if you end up wanting more.
Road Trip with a Vampire by Jenna Levine
CW (may contain spoilers):
sexual content, blood, fire, violence, stalking (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
Read This Book If You Enjoy: Vampire x Witch, Amnesia, Forced Proximity, Grumpy x Sunshine, Slow Burn
Peter is a vampire without his memories, and Zelda is a witch running from her past. When their paths cross in California, they decide to go on a road trip together to try to recover Peter’s missing time. Zelda is also looking for an outlet for her magic, which, after years of being kept under wraps, is quite literally burning to get free.
While trying to decipher the notes in Peter’s old journal, they stop at bowling alleys in the middle of nowhere, restaurants with singing chickens, and motels that only have one bed. Each stop confuses them further, as they encounter people terrified of Peter and start receiving threatening notes from someone who seems to be following them. Will they be able to figure out what caused Peter to lose his memories before it’s too late?
Each book in this series stands alone (though they’re more fun when read in order) and follows a different vampire as they fall in love with people they most certainly shouldn’t be forming relationships with. I love that after two books of vampires and humans together, we get the infamous Zelda’s backstory, as well as the conclusion to a subplot that has been present throughout all of the books.
When you need an easy read that will have you cheering for the characters from page one, pick up this book. I actually laughed out loud multiple times while reading it, and when I reached the final page, I immediately started the series over from the beginning. This is the opposite of the dramatic, moody vampire stories of my youth, and Jenna Levine does a great job of lightening up the genre.
Fang Fiction by Kate Stayman-London
CW (may contain spoilers):
Sexual Content, Blood, Violence, Sexual Assault (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
Read This Book If You Enjoy: Vampire x Human, Enemies to Lovers, Protective MMC, Book within a Book
Tess is a former Columbia PhD student and current hotel manager who’s obsessed with a series of books about a community of vampires that have been trapped in a fantastical version of New York City, where they’re the only inhabitants.
The drama is so juicy that some fans think the vampires are actually real, and someone is writing their lives like a reality TV show. Tess knows the theory is ridiculous, but when a vampire bearing a striking resemblance to one of the main characters walks through the door of her hotel, she can’t help but be excited. That vampire sends Tess on a journey to another dimension to deliver a message to his brother (who just happens to be the villain of the series) and, hopefully, help them all escape.
While Tess is excited to visit the world of her favorite series, she’s also a bit apprehensive about being around vampires that haven’t seen a human in years. Her worries aren’t unfounded, as she’s kidnapped immediately upon entering the city, and what unfolds is a look behind the curtain of her cherished fandom. The real-life versions of the characters she adores are quite different from their fictional counterparts, and the villain might be the most different of them all.
The premise of this book is every fangirl's dream. I mean, who wouldn’t want to visit their favorite fictional world, meet the characters, and possibly fall in love along the way?
I really enjoyed how this book turned being a superfan on its head by showing another point of view, one where the author of your favorite series might not be accurately portraying the lives of the characters you love so much, and what happens after that revelation.
Tess is incredibly relatable as she navigates the world she thinks she knows so well. She meets her crush (while naked in a magical spring), gets kidnapped by a murderous side character (naturally), and has to help them find a way out of this prison without revealing that she knows so much because, well, their lives were turned into fanfiction that turned into books that are now being adapted into a movie (because that might freak them out).
There’s also a wonderful sapphic subplot happening back in regular New York, involving Tess’ best friend (also a huge fan) and the vampire who escaped.
And If You Prefer Less Spice In Your Romance Books, These Will Be Perfect For You
Blood Moon by Britney S. Lewis
CW (may contain spoilers):
Blood, Violence, and Grief (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
Mirabella Owens has just started college. Although it initially feels normal, her mysterious classmate, Julian Santos, treats her with inexplicable coldness, and Mira receives a letter from her mother, who left when Mira was thirteen, suggesting that her world is not as it appears.
Mira suspects her mom is right, and strange occurrences involving a particular Julian Santos, a Blood Moon, and an ancient war confirm her suspicions. There’s more to the local werewolf and vampire legends she grew up hearing than she could have imagined.
If you love vivid small-town settings that will sweep you away, I highly recommend Blood Moon. Once the world-building hooks you, the romance will keep you addicted, especially with the love triangle, pining, and forbidden love.
Werewolves also join the paranormal party in Blood Moon, adding to the intrigue, supernatural lore, and danger. Oh, and if you enjoyed the dark academia in Legendborn, the college setting in this book is a treat.
A Cruel Thirst by Angela Montoya
CW (may contain spoilers):
Blood, Violence, and Grief (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
With a possible betrothal encroaching, Carolina Fuentes is determined to prove she’d be a better vampire hunter than wife, longing to help her family slay the bloodthirsty vampires plaguing her home.
Suddenly turned into a sediento, Lalo Villalobos flees his home in the city, searching for the place of creation of the first vampire. Lalo longs to reverse his curse or even end sedientos entirely, seeking answers in the pueblo that just so happens to be Carolina’s.
Carolina would gladly end him, but luckily, they share the same goal: killing all vampires, and so they join forces for a dangerous, romantic adventure.
Full of danger, banter, and magic, A Cruel Thirst is an action-packed standalone, featuring mythology inspired by Mexican lore. If you love forced proximity, Angela Montoya delivers an irresistible take on only-one-horse.
Perfect for fans of Pride & Prejudice, the vampire x vampire hunter romance in this book is thoroughly addictive, with other top-tier tropes like knife-to-throat and fake engagement. Trust me, you’ll want to add this one to your TBR!
Inheritance of Scars by Crystal Seitz
CW (may contain spoilers):
Death, Animal death, Grief, Gore, Ritualistic self-harm, Body horror, Violence, Night terrors, and Allusions to suicide (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
Bloodthirsty monsters called draugr prowl through Tiveden Forest. When Astrid’s grandmother disappears, she sets out to find her, discovering an ancient blood oath and a conflict that has haunted her family and village for generations.
Along her way, Astrid accidentally awakens a deadly draugr named Soren. Possessing vast knowledge of Tiveden, Soren joins Astrid in her mission to save her grandmother. As they travel deeper into the forest, their bond grows, and secrets surrounding her grandmother’s disappearance and Astrid’s ancestor’s blood oath unravel.
If you love Norse mythology and wintry, haunting settings, Inheritance of Scars is a must-read. This book is set mostly in modern-day Unden and the Tiweden Forest but partly centuries ago, and the dual timelines add the perfect dose of magic and mystery to Soren and Astrid’s addictive enemies-to-lovers romance.
Inspired by Crystal Seitz’s experience living with Crohn’s disease, Astrid also has Crohn’s disease, so Inheritance of Scars not only delivers an enthralling adventure filled with monsters, family secrets, and gripping twists, but also offers a thoughtful commentary on how society views and treats people with diseases and disorders.
A Vile Season by David Ferraro
CW (may contain spoilers):
Blood, Gore, and Murder (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
Hiding after being chased from his castle by vampire hunters, Count Lucian encounters Vrykolakas (the god of vampires). Vrykolakas is upset by the number of vampires being beaten by hunters, so He assigns Lucian a test and turns him mortal, which allows him to walk among humans.
Posing as a suitor, Lucian must enter a duke’s marriage games and identify the vampire hunters suspected by Vrykolakas to be among the participants. Lucian’s prize: becoming the most powerful vampire. If he fails, he’ll suffer torture for the rest of his life.
Facing the emotional toll of being human again after centuries and the chaos of the courting season, Lucian has to aid the humans he was supposed to deceive to complete his task. Ultimately, he’s left with a choice of whether to keep the love and friendship he’s gained or claim his prize.
I couldn’t get enough of this book when I read it. If you love Bridgerton and paranormal romance, be sure to check out A Vile Season!
This book offers a magical twist on the Regency era, and doses of horror, mystery, and courting season drama make the overall cozy story even more delightful. Also, The queer-normative world was welcoming and refreshing, adding to the thrill of the adventure, which I loved!
This Ravenous Fate by Hayley Dennings
CW (may contain spoilers):
Emotional abuse, Obsessive compulsive disorder, Anxiety, Suicidal ideation, Violence, and Murder (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
Elise Saint, the reluctant heir to the Saint empire, is wanted dead by vampires (also known as reapers). The Saint family profits from its powerful reaper-hunting enterprise as the reapers spread throughout New York.
On a night five years ago when she lost her parents, Saint protection, and humanity, Layla Quinn became a reaper, following her betrayal by Elise. Now, some reapers are mysteriously regaining part of their humanity, leaving behind brutal killings. Layla is accused of one such attack, and the Saint patriarch presents an irresistible offer: Partner with Elise to investigate the murders’ connection to rumors of a reaper cure.
As they venture into the city’s underworld, Elise and Layla discover more about the threat to reapers and humans, all while tackling their feelings for each other.
Vampires are back in This Ravenous Fate, and Hayley Dennings brought a yearning-filled sapphic romance with them (and let’s not forget the female rage).
Set in Harlem, New York City, this book blends urban fantasy with historical fantasy as it explores nightclubs, including the Savoy and the Cotton Club, full of the alluring, vibrant, Prohibition-fueled energy of the 1920s.
Elise and Layla’s childhood friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romance took BookTok by storm, capturing the feeling of Orpheus and Eurydice’s love story and including some of the most popular romance tropes, such as knife-to-throat and forced proximity. If you’re looking for a book with black vampires and murder, I highly recommend checking this one out!
The Scarlet Veil by Shelby Mahurin
CW (may contain spoilers):
Murder, Body horror, Blood consumption, Kidnapping, and Grief (Note: This list doesn't include all content warnings. Please do your own research before reading this book.)
In surprising defiance of tradition, Célie Tremblay becomes the first huntswoman. Célie’s friends and fiancé, Jean Luc (who is also her new captain), fear for her safety and attempt to shield her from her horrifying past. Mysterious whispers manage to sneak in, and a rising evil leaves behind blood-drained bodies.
Set on proving herself, Célie discovers the killer in the lair of ancient creatures called Les Éternels. She gains the attention of their king, deepening her fears of the dark, for the closer they grow, the more tempted she becomes to succumb to his hunter.
Vampires, romance, ghosts, and murder…oh my! If you love novels with entrancing Gothic atmospheres, monsters, and witty banter, The Scarlet Veil is the book for you. The story’s 600+ pages fly by in the blink of an eye, leaving you craving more (but thankfully, the sequel, The Shadow Bride, was released in March 2025 and is waiting for you as soon as you finish!)
This book is a spin-off from the Serpent & Dove series, but if you’re like me and haven’t had the pleasure of diving in yet, not to worry—Shelby Mahurin’s lush world-building and captivating characters will seamlessly set the scene.
