Amber and I are BACK this August for a fun new readalong! We're about to start our monthly discussion for our July YA book, Garden Of The Cursed by Katy Rose Pool!

As a reminder, from now on, our monthly discussions will be both here on the OwlCrate blog AND on The Nest! Go check out Amber's discussion that will be full of fun extras like bookish charades, shelf scavenger hunts and coloring pages!

On each day we'll read a section of Garden Of The Cursed, both on the blog and in The Nest's group, and then discuss in the comments our theories and predictions. This means there will be spoilers for each section! Beware!

Just a reminder that this will be a SPOILER discussion for chapters 5-6 of Garden Of The Cursed, so make sure you read or are finished this section before continuing.

I'd definitely be up to going to a random party at the request of a handsome old friend, but I'm not Marlow...

Chapter Five:

Marlow arrives at the party to find Adrius and they find a private room to speak in. Marlow guesses that he's under a compulsion spell, a spell so rare and old that Marlow only half believes it. It's a hundreds of years old spell lost to time from a Grimoire by the Sorcerer Ilario.

Nevertheless, Marlow accepts Adrius's employment to break his spell. Their old friends interrupt them and to save Adrius from compelling the truth, Marlow pretends that they are dating.

Marlow leaves Adrius to search the ship for any clues to her mother's disappearance, the old case she'd wondered about. Marlow tries to look at the ship logs first but finds nothing and is cornered by Adrius's father's chevalier, a dangerous woman named Caito. Before Caito can accuse Marlow of spying as she's threatened her with the security logs, she's saved by her mother's old employer, a noble by the name of Vale.

She inquires with him about the night her mother disappeared but he has no information for her. Marlow herself considers the security logs and spells her way into the room. She finds her mother's name on the ship logs, along with another, Armant Montagne.

Chapter Six:

Adrius shows up at Marlow's the next day and they make a plan to investigate everyone who was at a party with him the evening he was seemingly cursed. Adrius suggests that they attend an engagement celebration of his friends at the Vale home where nearly everyone he'd seen at the last party will be.

Marlow then reminisces on a flashback during a time when she and Adrius were close, only for him to reject her in front of all his noble friends.

There had better be a redemption arc for Adrius incoming xD...

 Questions:

  1. 👀💫Who do you think cursed Adrius?
  2.

💖 Oooh fake dating. I love this trope. Do you think it will turn into more?
  3. 💭 Do you think they'll successfully fool everyone into believing they're together?
