Amber and I are BACK this October for a fun new readalong! We're about to start our monthly discussion for our August Adult book (recommended by those 18+), Masters Of Death by Olivie Blake!
As a reminder, from now on, our monthly discussions will be both here on the OwlCrate blog AND on The Nest! Go check out Amber's discussion that will be full of fun extra content!
On each day we'll read a section of Masters Of Death, both on the blog and in The Nest's group, and then discuss in the comments our theories and predictions. This means there will be spoilers for each section! Beware!
Just a reminder that this will be a SPOILER discussion for the prelude to chapter 3 of Masters Of Death , so make sure you read or are finished this section before continuing.
It's time to get spooky, besties.

Prelude:
We are introduced to a centuries old figure staring at a gruesome scene that they have only just arrived to. He meets two figures obscured by shadows who taunt him. They tell him to try to escape and he cannot.
He asks if what they're doing is supposed to be a game. They say strictly speaking, it's not a game, it's now a war.
Chapter One:
We are met by Death who has a poetic sense of humor. He tells of a story of a man and a woman who have had a baby but are dying. They go to look for a guardian for him and find a reaper, an angel, and Death.
Ultimately they choose Death who raises the boy as his own and names him Fox. He's as clever as a Fox and a mischievous son who bests his father, Death.
Chapter Two:
We are introduced to Fox, a suave immortal running a trendy shop called Medium that looks more like his apartment. People go to him to commune with the dead.
Which they do.

But only because Fox uses his father, Death, as a go-between in his psychic business. Fox summons Death who reads for a woman named Eva, telling Fox all the terrible details of the woman's dead ex-fiancé. Fox turns those terrible truths into lies and gets laid for his efforts.
Before Death leaves he means to tell Fox something but he's not listening. "Band" he says and lets Fox know that he will learn soon enough what that thing is.
Chapter Three:
A woman named Violet opens the doors of a mansion fresh from grocery shopping to become immediately harassed by her friend Tom, a conservative ghost. He immediately bugs her about being undead but she responds that she's managing the situation perfectly well.

Earlier that morning, Violet's demon-friend Isis asked about her ghost problem which makes Violet travel down memory lane.
Violet thinks back about her boring life, boring school trajectory and boring archeological job, well boring if you can discount becoming a vampire while on a dig.
And almost his vampire bride if she hadn't have knocked him out with a rock first. And it was most unfortunate that she only found out because she ate her professor's heart.
And she can also turn into a vampire cat (technically she's an aswang).
When she returned from the dig she moved to Chicago and meets Isis at a supernatural meet up, where she meets a lot more immortals. Violet and Isis become friends and she tells Isis about meeting Thomas the ghost/poltergeist who is haunting the property she's trying to sell.

Back to the present, Tom tells Violet that she can't manage being a vampire and can't be a little bit of a vampire. Tom implores Violet not to sell his house and she refuses, stating that she will make sure he's gone by the time it's sold.

This is NOT what I was expecting and I enjoy it immensely already.
Questions:
-
Do you think Fox eats people or uses juice boxes?
-
How does Fox see Death?
-
How do you think Violet and Fox will meet? Will they meet?
