The mystery continues...

Chapter 7:

After an electrifying kiss between Jamison and Luxe, Colette interrupts them by knocking on the door. Luxe opens the door to find the real Dewey Chronos.

Luxe feels immediately betrayed but must greet Dewey, and what's a girl to do? Shove the cute imposter boy under her bed, of course! She then welcomes Dewey and asks him to wait while she slips into something...a little more comfortable.

Which is a total ruse so that she can remove the not-Dewey from under her bed. Lux closes the door and demands that Jamison leaves through the window. Jamison is hurt but distracted by a photograph of a scene that closely matches his only photo of his parents. Jamison demands that Luxe help him find the beach and pier in the picture. In return, he'll leave. Luxe eventually agrees, and Jamison embarks out the window.

This leaves Lux to seduce the real Dewey, who has a proposition for her. Dewey Chronos wants Luxe and the Revelles to support his candidacy for mayor. Luxe is reluctant, but Dewey tells her to name a price. Luxe agrees when she realizes he can give her family a warm space to perform in winter, safety, food and enough booze to entice tourists.

Chapter 8:

Fresh out of the Big Tent window, fresh out of a prickly bush, and fresh out of money, Jamison realizes he's also lost his mother's brooch. He vows to get it back and find the dock from his parents' photograph. He sees the barn he, Trys and Roger have been given to stay in and finds that Roger has traded Luxe's injuries from her fall in exchange for free rent.

After a conversation with Roger and Trys, Jamison realizes that the more time he spends in Charmant, the more familiar the island feels. Jamison waits days for Luxe to show him the beach from the photograph, but she has yet to come.

After five days spent waiting for Luxe and searching all the beaches in Charmant, Jamison cannot find the pier from the photograph. Jamison decides he will give Luxe no choice but to help him, and he, Trys and Roger attend a party at Dewey Chronos' mansion, where Jamison knows Luxe will be.

Jamison searches for and finds Luxe at the party. He once again asks her to show him the beach from the photograph. Luxe is still angry and ignores Jamison's request. She spends the rest of the party on Dewey's arm.

Chapter 9:

Dewey announces his intention to run for mayor at his party, to the surprise and excitement of no one. Luxe uses her secret magic to keep Dewey content throughout the evening, making him think everyone loves him and his ideas. After a while, Collette suggests that everyone play a dance called the "Swap Trot," a partner dance off game. During a partner swap, Jamison is paired with Luxe and yet again pleads with her to show him the beach from the photograph, and she finally agrees to show him the next day after her rehearsals.

During the Swap Trot dance, Collette injures her ankle, and Dewey graciously offers to have a Strattori healer trade her injuries with him. Luxe thanks Dewey for this, but as Dewey leans to kiss her, Luxe uses her secret magic on him so that he doesn't.

Dewey's assistant Trevor, an Edwardian mind-reader, figures out Luxe's secret magic as she avoids Dewey's kiss with it. However, Trevor assures Luxe that he will not share her dangerous secret, and instead warns her to be very careful with it. Luxe then vows to make no more mistakes with her magic.

 Questions:

  1. What do you think Jamison will find out about his family?
  2. Do you believe Luxe will be able to keep her magic secret?
  3. What kind of Charmant magic would you like to wield if you could?
  4. Are you team Dewey or team Jamison at this point?
