Time for another "Whatcha Reading?" Team OwlCrate Edition. If there’s one thing book lovers love more than actually reading books, it’s gushing about their favorite reads (and convincing you to read them!)
Every month members of our team love to share their personal favorite books of the month! We are a diverse team of readers, so if you’re looking for your next five star book, read on dear readers and check back next month for another installment!
AMBER
The Burning Witch by Delemhach
I am obsessed with this whole series. This book is a spinoff of the main series, The Kitchen Witch. It’s about Katarina’s dad. I loved getting Katarina’s story; she is feisty and so fun. She always seems to find herself in a mess. Add in Prince Eric, and chaos ensues. I cannot wait to read more of this series.
The Curiosities by W.H. Eatons
This book was so good, and the story was adorable. The children's curiosity was such a fun part of the story. I love that it has zombies, aliens, and meddling kids - it felt very Scooby-Doo. I loved the cat's point of view as well.
Problematic Summer Romance by Ali Hazelwood
Ali is an autobuy author for me always, and this book did not disappoint. I just loved it so much. I loved the tension between the two main characters, and I was pulled into this book from the start.
The setting was fun, and it was awesome to see characters from the first book as well. It was the perfect summer read. The romance was so good, and the spice was perfect.
CORI
Maeve Fly by CJ Leede
I went into Maeve Fly blind, only knowing it had the potential to be gory, and isn't that an understatement? But, I LOVED it. In it, we follow discontented Maeve, who by day works at "the happiest place on earth" and by night has a bit more sinister hobbies. When a new potential love interest/rival moves to town, Maeve starts to spiral in unexpected ways.
Be warned, this book is really dark and graphic at times, but if you're looking for something you can't look away from (even though you may want to), Maeve Fly needs to be added to your TBR.
CADE
The Haar by David Sodergren
The Haar is an incredibly weird, "gore-soaked folk horror fairy tale", with a touch of romance, set in Witchhaven, a remote fishing village on a Scottish island.
It tells the story of an elderly woman whose home is threatened by property developers who refuse to accept no as an answer, no matter how much money they offer her. They become increasingly aggressive, resorting to any means to get what they want. And then a mysterious fog creeps inland...
High rec from me! Especially when you start wanting a short horror novella to ease into spooky season!
ASHLEY
The Last Love Note by Emma Grey
Go into this one completely blind if possible! What I will say is that it wrecked me and will most likely be one of my top reads this year.
There is a character in this book who is so unbelievable selfless & caring, and I was a complete mess in so many moments throughout this book.
It is an emotional book that touches on grief, love, and resilience. Have your tissues ready.
"The Last Love Note will make readers laugh, cry, and renew their faith in the resilience of the human heart—and in love itself."
