Amber and I are BACK this November for a fun new readalong! We're about to start our monthly discussion over on The Nest for our October YA book "This Dark Descent" by Kalyn Josephson!
Remember! You Need To Find Us On The Nest!
As a reminder, our interactive monthly discussions will be on The Nest! Go check out Amber's discussion that will be full of fun extras like bookish charades, shelf scavenger hunts and coloring pages!
On each day, Amber and the mods will read a section of This Dark Descent in The Nest's group, and then discuss in the comments our theories and predictions. This means there will be spoilers for each section! Beware!
Just a reminder, today will be a SPOILER filled reaction for chapters 25-30 of This Dark Descent, so make sure you're finished before checking out the blog and the discussion group!
This Dark Descent Readalong
This month, as the team is heading into Black Friday and our end of the year wrap up, rather than a chapter by chapter breakdown, I'll be providing my thoughts on the book so far.
Let us know over on The Nest if you agree with my mild to medium hot takes ;)
Read these AFTER you're finished not as you go!
Thoughts on Chapter Twenty-Five
- It's alright Ailene. Poor Starling.
- YOU SOLD IRI? KIRA.
- Rezek sabotaged the fence? Oh now he's asking for it.
- I'll save you all the descriptions of the corpse Kira just found at the riverbank.
- But…why would this body be grasping Damien's House ring?
- Oh Kira, Kira. Damien has probably murdered people, it's fine.
Thoughts On Chapter Twenty-Six
- At this point I'm not even surprised that Ari is covered in blood wandering cobblestone streets.
- Ari…please usually I don't mind the murderous intent but this is going a bit far.
- Damien…the sass toward Hyle lol.
- Seriously what happened to your ring, Damien?
- Bloodstones sound less than fun with the way everything has been going.
- Called it. Ari is attached to a demon??
- Okay Ari, I understand protecting yourself but you may want to let some of that power go…
Thoughts On Chapter Twenty-Seven
- I very much want fancy silver trees now.
- Oh great this voice is properly sentient.
- Loic is exactly who we needed to see at the third race.
- There's Damien back with the “touch her and die” vibes we're tuning in for.
- Wait, what the heck is the Ascension?
-
Oh damn, Damien. I think you're probably going to win this Ascension business!
Thoughts On Chapter Twenty-Eight
- Oh calm down Kira, Damien's the good kind of murderer, probably.
- A two horse span gap across a bridge over a river. And you have to JUMP that? HARD PASS.
- Who slashes at a horse, honestly.
- Gren is such a pain in the behind.
- OF COURSE Rezek sent Gren after Kira in the race.
- Oh no…the ravine!
Thoughts On Chapter Twenty-Nine
- I once underestimated the depth of a creek I was crossing on my childhood pony. We jumped in and were submerged to his ears. Still not as bad as the Illinir.
- Of course Atara would save you, Kira.
- Three miles at a gallop on a wounded leg? That is Hidalgo levels of grit. I love it.
- Ari may be massively over powered but I'm glad Atara is healed.
- Oh Rezek you really thought you had her, didn't you?
Thoughts On Chapter Thirty
- Oh to be given fancy designer ballgowns. We should really have way more excuses to wear ballgowns.
- AND A FANCY GOLD AND EMERALD RING?
- AND…kisses? ;)
- All this sleep walking is becoming a tad concerning, Ari.
- I KNEW that Damien and Rezek had to have been close friends.
- HE KILLED DAMIEN'S MOM, WHAT?
- Does anyone else feel that this book has taken a very dark turn or…just me?
- AND LOIC SAW AND DID NOTHING??!
