Our April book is City of Gods and Monsters by Kayla Edwards, an urban romantasy that takes place in Angelthene, a city full of supernatural creatures and conditions perilous to humans. Loren Calla is an ordinary human whose life has been turned upside down when her friend was abducted in her stead. With limited options, she teams up with Darien Cassel, the leader of the most dangerous supernatural bounty hunter group in the city. Together, they uncover the mystery surrounding her missing friend.

KAYLA EDWARDS
How did you develop the deities and ancient entities in Terra? What inspired them?
For the deities, I drew a bit of inspiration from the Greek pantheon (mainly the different functions and attributes of each god and goddess). As for the creatures of the Crossroads... This is hard to talk about without spoiling future installments! What I can tell you is that the Widow was the first one I created, and she was inspired by Shelob and Ungoliant (I'm a big fan of The Lord of the Rings!).
What is your favorite place in Angelthene?
Hell's Gate, of course! But if I had to pick somewhere else, I would choose the Avenue of the Scarlet Star. I would love to go shopping there, and I would take Loren with me!
What is your favorite quote from this book?
It's too hard to narrow it down to one, so I'm going to give you two.
“She would go with him anywhere. No matter how far, no matter how dark the road, she would go with him, if it meant they would be together.”
And: "Whether he called himself a Devil or not, he had quickly turned into her angel." I especially love this last one, as it really illustrates the journey Darien goes through in this book.
If you had a familiar, what form would it take?
This is such a hard question, but I'd have to say, a dog!

What is OwlCrate?

All of the books chosen for this subscription are various kinds of romantasy. This can include retellings, cozy, dark, paranormal, epic, historical, and more with varying spice levels!
What do I do if one of my items arrived damaged?
We are sorry to hear one of your items was damaged in shipping. We do our best to make sure everything is packed safely and securely in your box but things can get bumped about in transit.
Damaged Books:
Though we aim to send out books in the best condition possible, small dings are very common to any books shipped, and even those found on the shelves in bookstores. Books are shipped many times - from the printer to us, and then from us to you. If you feel your book is damaged, please send an email and a photo of the issue to customer support, and we will be happy to take a look.
When emailing support, please let us know the email address attached to your account so we can easily find your order and shipping address.
