Akmanaev Eldar (he/him) is a 2D digital artist and illustrator. He has loved inventing worlds since he was a child, which began after seeing The Lord of the Rings at a young age; the universe of which, no doubt, had a profound influence on him. He thought that the worlds that Tolkien created were breathtaking, and he wanted to become someone who could create something as big as that. He started drawing maps, characters, and weapons, making up plots and stories of these worlds, then putting them on paper. Over time, he realized that he wanted to continue doing that as part of his life, so he became an artist.

He mostly creates digital art, but when he’s bored and wants to relax, he draws on paper, mostly with ink and pencils. Back when he was in college, he also loved to paint in oil, watercolor, charcoal, and other art mediums. Aside from drawing, one of his hobbies is photography, and he plans to develop his skills in this field as well.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

I really like the Pre-Raphaelites, Symbolism, and Academism. I also like the works that Alan Lee and Ted Nasmith created; the care and detail with which they paint their works is amazing. I am often inspired by various sculptures, architecture, and nature. I also often draw stars in my works, and for this purpose, I take pictures of the night sky with my camera. It's all very inspiring.

  • The bound in art piece in the OwlCrate edition of Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo

"My favorite work created in collaboration with OwlCrate is the illustration for the book Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo. I drew a fiery waterfall, and a firebird diving down, a work I still really like to this day."

What are some of your favorite
books or authors?

My favorite authors are John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe,

and Jorge Luis Borges.
