Jess (she/her) is an illustrator based in the UK. She has been drawing her whole life and she used to sit with a notebook and pens whenever she went to restaurants with her family, seemingly ever since she could hold a pencil.

She got started as a digital artist a little bit later in life, when she was about sixteen, because she thought it would be a fun new way to explore art. This is because, as an early teenager, she had often focused on drawing realism, using oils and watercolors, and digital art enabled her the freedom to explore other styles like the ones you see above. She creates all her art using digital mediums, specifically Patreon on an iPad.

At present she also runs an online shop called Ouijacine&Co, with the help of her family and friends, where she offers a range of commissions. Her dream is to one day become an author and make art for the stories she will write.

Where do you find inspiration
for your designs?

I usually find inspiration for my designs from my favorite book series. I love imagining how characters would come to life from the clothes they would wear to the setting and lighting.

Do you have a favorite piece of art you've created to date? What makes it special to you?

A favorite project I have worked on would have to be the overlays I’ve created for The Foxhole Court, the first in Nora Sakavic’s “All For The Game” series. The first piece is special to me because I feel like I was finally able to translate, through my art, something I saw exactly in my head which isn’t always the easiest thing to do!

Jess (@ouijacine) is the artist behind:

  • The exclusive reversible dust jacket on the OwlCrate editions of The Dream Thieves; Blue Lily, Lily Blue; and The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

“The reverse dust jackets for Maggie Stiefvater’s The Raven Cycle. This project was so important to me because Maggie is one of my favorite authors and I have followed her work for years. My favorite of the three designs would have to be from The Dream Thieves with Ronan and Kazinsky looking at each other, I loved creating their monsters with the rich pink color palette as well as all the details like the raven boy crest on the jumper and the gun with ‘dream killer’ written on it. I felt like the project was special because I was able to include all the fun imagery across the series and place it into one drawing.”
