About Lichen & Limestone
Lichen & Limestone is a Victorian-era-inspired shop run by Gretchen, who is not only a candle maker but also an artist. She loves all things fantasy, in particular myths and legends, and gains inspiration from finding beauty in the unusual. All products sold on Lichen & Limestone are designed and created by Gretchen.

Lichen & Limestone mainly sells eco-friendly candles made with either soy or veggie-blended wax. Their candles are meant to invoke a dark aesthetic, inspired by dark academia, dark romance, and gothic styles.
Currently, they have a few collections on offer, like Spirited Summer, Eternally Entwines, All Hallow’s Eve, Autumnal, and Winter. Lichen & Limestone releases several new collections a year, featuring new and returning scents.
The various seasonal collections feature candles to welcome the equinoxes. The Autumnal Collection includes scents to "evoke chilly October evenings, walks through quiet cemeteries, and the unmistakeable magic fall has to offer" with candles such as Call of the Raven and Covens & Curses.
Lichen & Limestone also excels at crafting collections inspired by holidays, but with their own unique take. The All Hallow's Eve collection offers items "inspired by vintage Halloween treats, chilling spirits, and classic tales of horror" like Pumpkin Ghost and Halloween Hooligans. Their Eternally Entwined Collection includes four beautifully designed Valentine’s Day candles, such as Eternally Entwined, Haunt Me, and Villainous Paramor, and also includes a small Valentine's card to use however you like.

In addition to their candles, Lichen & Limestone also sells an array of products on their website, including wax melts, enamel pins, body sprays, perfume oils, and body care products.

OwlCrate has worked with Lichen & Limestone to create some amazing designs for many of our products, ranging from book covers to journal covers to all types of bookish items. She was also the designer behind some book covers and items featured in our OwlCrate Jr boxes.
In particular, Gretchen designed the covers for A Fragile Enchantment by Allison Saft and The Buried and the Bound by Rochelle Hassan. She also designed the cover and foiled end pages for both Threads That Bind by Kika Hatzopoulou (as well as the clear vinyl cover dust jacket) and Midnight Strikes by Zeba Shahnaz.

In 2023, Gretchen was also the designer behind our Faux Book Journal collection, which featured The World Remade Journal (December 2023 'The Dark Devours' OwlCrate box), Gods of Our Own Universes Journal (September 2023 'Drown Your Secrets' OwlCrate box), and Starless and Sacred Journal (February 2023 'Magic & Mischief' OwlCrate box).

Beyond helping us with stunning book covers, endpapers, and journal designs, Gretchen has also designed and created an amazing Lynch & Sons-inspired wood-wick candle as part of our December 2022 'The Raven Boys Anniversary Box.
In terms of our monthly boxes, she has been the artist for a handful of our YA Fantasy monthly box items, including the Chasseur and Dame Blanche Salt and Pepper Shakers from our December 2022 'Star-Crossed' OwlCrate box, A Darker Shade of Magic-inspired Adventure Wooden Bookmark (November 2023 'Perilous Travels' OwlCrate box), and the Cresswell and Wadsworth Backpack featured in the September 2022 'Memento Mori' OwlCrate box.
