Marci (she/her) began her artistic journey in middle school. Back then, she loved to draw her favorite cartoon and movie characters (i.e., Naruto and Spirit the Stallion), and to this day, she has all her early works of art saved and enjoys looking back on them. She pursued a major in illustration and graduated from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.

Marci creates her art digitally on an iPad using Procreate and Photoshop. She also enjoys dabbling with graphite and color pencil in her sketchbook, and once in a while, she'll get the traditional painting bug, too.

In her downtime, she can be found combing beaches for sea glass, watering her jungle of houseplants, or reading the latest smash hit she found via Booktok.

Where do you find inspiration
for your designs?

A lot of inspiration comes straight from books, as I love to draw my favorite book characters. Music also plays a major role in my process. If I find a really punchy song that I like, I can play it on repeat for 5 hours while I draw. It has happened many times before with Lady Gaga and Hozier.

Do you have a favorite piece of art you've created to date? What makes it special to you?

Looking back at my portfolio, I'm super proud of a mock cover that I made for The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (pictured above). It was a little bit of a turning point for me. I was always interested in book cover illustration, but it was after I made that piece that I knew I wanted to work towards a career as a cover artist. I feel so inspired when I enter a bookstore and see a gorgeous cover.

“My favorite OwlCrate project that I got to work on was illustrating the wooden bookmarks for The Raven Cycle 10th Anniversary special editions. I think they turned out so spectacular, and it meant a lot to make art for books that I hold so dear!”

What are some of your favorite

*Opens my Goodreads as that is where my brain lives* I enjoy books by Maggie Steifvater, Donna Tartt, and Meg Rosoff, just to name a few. My favorite book is A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara.
