After The Forest Readalong

What do you think of the Snow White fairytale being turned on it's head a little bit here? I wasn't expecting it, but now I'm cheering on Team Bear!

So, without further adieu…

Chapter Twenty-One

Christof and Greta return to the mill while a raging snowstorm drifts in.

She begs Rob to do something about Mathias but Conran will not let the men go to investigate. Greta suggests to Rob that she and Mira could go as foxes but he warns against it.

In the morning the valley is covered in snow and Ingrid comes to Rob's. She explains to Greta that Hans has gone to pay the Blood Tithe and that the Baroness and her men have captured the bear and will have it killed.

Greta is worried sick.

Chapter Twenty-Two

Greta again asks Rob and Mira for help but they are unwilling to challenge Conran.

Sick of hearing no, and tired of feeling helpless, Greta leaves and goes back to her cottage. She is planning to go to the Hornberg to save Mathias and Hans.

Using the book, which has taken a sort of human form, she enchants gingerbread once again with the addition of her blood.

When she is nearly done, there is a knock at the door. It's the watchmen with the witchfinder…

Chapter Twenty-Three

Greta spends all night in the dungeon and in the morning, is called to be on trial for witchcraft.

As she stands accused with the book, the gingerbread and pointing fingers from the community, it seems like all hope is lost. That is util Rob Mueller stands for Greta, and suddenly the room is filled with wolves.

Rob holds a fox pelt out for Greta and she shape shifts to get away. Running to Mira she is stopped by a carriage. It's Fizcko, the Baroness's mage companion.

Greta realizes that it's he who summoned the storm and harmed everyone, and he's taking her to the Hornberg as a guest.
