The Story Continues...

Chapter 4:
Anaïs sets her sights on finding out WHO is behind the attacks. Talking to two contemporaries at the ball, she finds out there have been protests by radicals.

Once again at the ball, she decides to punch Leo in the face, earning the ire of and therefore time alone with the royal guards. They of course also don’t heed her warnings - but also won’t tell her who the real threat to the palace is.

Chapter 5:
Before the ball the next night Anaïs convinces Gaspard to skip the dancing and explore the palace with her. She’s about to tell him what she has been experiencing when they are cornered by three men, one with glowing green eyes. Before they can talk their way out of the situation one of them gets shot.

Chapter 6:
Anaïs awakes, this time going to her father to ask if she can wear one of their family’s blessed daggers to the ball. Once again deciding to try to find answers, Anaïs goes back to the warded towers of the palace, using her blessings to get through the walls. After the first wall it becomes easy, and Anaïs suspects there is a traitor in the palace who has taken down the wards.

At the ball Anaïs is introduced to princess Clara, who upon hearing about Anaïs’ possession of Pronesan magic, introduces her to her little brother, Leo. Anaïs convinces Leo to takes a walk so they can talk in private, and manages to convince him that her story of night after night of disaster is true. They are nearly out of time, but he tells her the story of swearing a blood oath to San Pedro when he was a child. Something that is heretical to his family, and something that he was going to take to his grave - but if Anaïs reveals the story he’ll have to believe what she is saying and help her.

 Questions:

  1. Do you think the oath Lwo took as a child has any bearing?

  2. Do you think the royal family knows of Leo’s magic?

  3. Why do you think the man that shot Anaïs had glowing eyes?
