The story begins...

Chapter 7:
Colton overhears Delaney being chastised by her anatomy professor, and she flees the hall before she cries. She feels a presence and hears a boy’s voice telling her to wait. Assuming it’s Colton she turns around, but the hall is empty and cold.

Chapter 8:
Colton finds Delaney crying in the library stacks, and gets her to follow him into a study room. He tells her about the Sanctum, a building made of stones shipped over by Godbole himself from England. He tells Delaney that Adya is having a hard time getting out of her head because something else is trying to get in. He recommends that Delaney take her to the Sanctum. He also offers to help with her classes.

Chapter 9:
Delaney, Adya and Mackenzie go to the Sanctum. Exploring, Delaney finds a list of names, Colton’s included, and not knowing why she adds her own name as well. A voice behind her shocks her. Nate Schiller, a boy whose name is also on the wall. He tells her it’s the dead pool, and everyone up there is either dead, missing, or going to die. Hearing a commotion, Delaney leaves Nate to find that Adya once again saw the boy from the mirror, but this time he was torn apart.

Chapter 10:
The Apostle calls Colton, who eventually disdains to pick up. He tells him to study the reports he has, find out what is going wrong and why the students are dying. He also warns him that he’ll pay a price should he become worthless to the Priory.

After the call the darkness talks to the Apostle. Telling him that “she” will be his undoing.

Chapter 11:
Hayes joins Colton in Whitehall’s office. Delaney knocks, telling Colton she’d like to take him up on his offer to help her study. Colton rebuffs her. Hayes tells Colton that they both know Delaney is important - and to leave her alone lest he get her killed.

Chapter 12:
Colton confronts Delaney at a cafe, apologizing and insisting they have secret study sessions so it doesn’t look like he’s helping her cheat. Adya and Mackenzie want her to find out more information about the names on the wall.

Chapter 13:
Colton tutors Delaney, and her grades improve, but she finds it hard to ask about the wall. When she does eventually broach the subject, and brings up Nate, Colton tells her he is dangerous.

Chapter 14:
Delaney and Colton paint a butterfly on the wall of his house.

 Questions:

  1. Do you think Delaney is going to succeed in her exam?

  2. What do you think happened between Nate and Colton?

  3. What do you think the Priory is?

  4. Who is the Apostle? And what do you think the darkness is that he’s working with?
