ABOUT CHAAISTHEANSWER

Chaa (she/her) is a Filipino artist based in New Zealand. She has been drawing ever since she can remember. The earliest memory she has is of being 5 or 6 years old and filling pages with stick figures.
Her mum was always supportive of her passions, and when she noticed how much she loved creating art, she enrolled her in an art school to improve her craft. There, she was introduced to acrylic painting, along with other traditional media, laying the foundation for her artistic journey.
Around Year 8 she gained an interest in exploring digital art and got her a first-ever graphic tablet.
With her passions for games, animation, and character design, she pursued a bachelor's degree in Creative Media Production. At university, she began sharing her work online, committing herself to improving her craft.
Chaa is a digital artist by trade, but she also dabbles in acrylic painting from time to time. She alternates between her iPad and XP Pen tablet, and uses programs such as Procreate, Clip Studio, and Photoshop when making art.
When she’s not creating art, she loves role-playing games, reading romantasy novels, and travelling. She also has a 6-year-old lab mix that she introduces to everyone as her daughter.
Where do you find inspiration
for your designs?
Anime, games, and my love for fantasy!
I'm also inspired by Leyendecker's work, East Asian mythology, and Dungeons and Dragons.
Do you have a favorite piece of art you've created to date? What makes it special to you?
There was an art test I did for a company many years ago; it was a recreation of the Eternal Throne from the game Darksiders. Backgrounds aren't my strong suit, and at the time when I drew this, my art wasn't quite the quality I wanted it to be, but when this piece was done, I was amazed at how everything came together. I look back on this art and assure myself that if I really put in the effort, I can achieve anything.
CHAAISTHEANSWER X OWLCRATE
Chaa (@chaaistheanswer) is the artist behind:
- The page-overlay set illustration in the OwlCrate edition of Immortal Dark by Tigest Girma, featured in our October 2024 ‘Bleed You Dry’ Young Adult Fantasy box.
- The exclusive end pages in the OwlCrate edition of A Forbidden Alchemy by Stacey McEwan, which was featured in our July 2025 'Bottled Up Secrets' Quarterly Romantasy box.
"I worked on one of the page overlays for Immortal Dark and just recently, the end pages for A Forbidden Alchemy. My favorite project would have to be the latter. I really love the atmosphere and how both artworks came together nicely. Designing the characters was my favorite part!"
What are some of your favorite
books or authors?
My all-time favorite author is Madeline Miller and my all-time favorite book is The Song of Achilles. I will never recover from that book, and I have not found a movie that could move me as much as this one did. Madeline has such a poetic way of writing that it feels as though I’m being transported into a beautiful fantasy world…
