About Lichen & Limestone

My name is Gretchen Cobaugh, and I'm the artist, illustrator, candlemaker, and owner weaving enchantment at Lichen & Limestone. From my earliest memories, I’ve been captivated by tales of whimsical characters, ethereal realms, and the allure of the fantastical, inspiring my art and now my handcrafted candles.

With over 13 years of graphic design expertise, I’ve crafted branding, magazine layouts, and book artistry—designing covers, stenciled edges, and end papers for authors and special editions—infusing each creation with a touch of magic and elegance.

Fun Fact: I love going to Renaissance fairs! I love dressing up and getting to pretend; it's always a blast!

What inspired you to start your own business, and what has been your favourite achievement to date?

A lot of factors went into deciding to create my own business, but truly what pushed me forward was a desire to find my own path. A creative journey to create and design that allowed me to feel joy in the work I create every day and create things that bring happiness to others. It's been an incredible journey so far, and I love all the people I've already had the pleasure of working with and am thankful every day for the art we create.

What would your dream product / collaboration be?

My dream product or collaboration would be to design a special edition series of Kingdom of the Wicked by Kerri Maniscalco! I just absolutely loved that series and would be honored to create illustrations and designs for that series.

What are some of your favourite books?
