ABOUT TALITASAMI
Art By: @talitasami
Talita Asami (She/Her) has been passionate about drawing since she was a kid. She started with traditional media, experimenting with paints and pencils for years before moving into digital art. What began as a hobby slowly turned into her full-time job, and she’s been working professionally as an illustrator for the past few years.
Talita mainly creates art digitally, using Procreate on her iPad, but she also loves traditional painting (primarily gouache), and she often tries to bring that same textured, handmade feeling into her digital pieces.
Where do you find inspiration
for your designs?
My inspirations are really broad! At the beginning of my artistic journey, they came a lot from the art I consumed as a Japanese-Brazilian, so manga and anime have always had a strong influence on my style. Things changed when I moved to Brazil and got exposed to more Western and Latin art. But I think it’s part of being an illustrator to want to absorb inspiration from everything, right? hahaha I guess it’s “our thing.” So I try to include elements from daily life, other artists’ work, movies, and books. I feel like a sponge — but a very inspired one!
TALITASAMI X OWLCRATE
Talita (@talitasami) is the artist behind:
- Character art end pages with foil and stenciled edges on the OwlCrate edition of At the End of the River Styx by Michelle Kulwicki, which was featured in our September 2024 ‘I’ll Remember You’ Young Adult Fantasy box.
- The exclusive printed hardcover case on the OwlCrate edition of Bride & Mate by Ali Hazelwood. Bride was featured in our February 2024 ‘Love At First Bite’ Adult Fantasy box.
- The exclusive end pages in the OwlCrate edition of A Curious Kind of Magic by Mara Rutherford, which was featured in our October 2025 ‘A Compendium of Curiosities’ Young Adult Fantasy box.
“I’ve worked on multiple projects with OwlCrate, and I genuinely loved each one, so it's hard to choose just one! But if I had to choose, I think my favorite would be Bride/Mate, because I absolutely loved the color palette. And since I had already read The Bride by Ali Hazelwood, when this project came my way, it was... incredibly exciting, to say the least. It felt truly magical to me."
What are some of your favorite
books or authors?
When it comes to books, one that has never been surpassed for me is Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes. It had such a profound impact on me at the time, and the feeling I had when I finished it was unforgettable. I also really enjoy Sally Rooney’s Normal People! I think she creates such complex characters in very ordinary situations, which feel very real and human. And right now, I think my favorite author is Taylor Jenkins Reid. Her way of writing is so creative and emotionally engaging!
