The story goes on...

Chapter 22:
Felicity follows the coordinates of the invitation to the church just before sundown. She finds Ellis, and beside her, a rifle. She explains the Quinn keeps it in their car for protection. Tonight they are going to recreate Flora’s murder by shooting a coyote as another way to prove that none of the killings were magic. When they eventually find a coyote, using a coyote call Ellis brought, Felicity can’t let Ellis be the one to shoot. She takes the rifle and shoots the coyote herself.

Chapter 23:
Back at the house they avoid Quinn and go to Ellis’ room. They tell each other that they want each other and Felicity starts spending the night in Ellis’ room. A couple days before term starts again Quinn leaves and their other housemates return. Kajal and Leonie seem surprised (but pleased) that Felicity is still there and concerned when she reveals she stayed alone at Dalloway with Ellis. After dinner Felicity helps Clara clean up and she finds herself thinking of Alex but not in a scared and negative way. In a way that makes her feel at peace. She takes Alex’s letters down from her walls and starts taking her medication again.

Chapter 24:
The next day Felicity oversleeps and decides to spend the day reading and working on her thesis. Coming down from her room at lunch she finds Leonie writing in the kitchen writing, but she quickly closes her notebook and tells Felicity not to tell Ellis. She says she’s writing the story of her grandmother. Felicity asks Leonie about the Margery coven and reveals to her that she’s a lesbian. Up in her room that night unable to sleep, Felicity decides to pick a book from her shelf to read, only to find the missing copy of The Secret Garden, covered in grave dirt and inscribed with Alex’s own writing a line from the letter Felicity wrote to Alex that was buried in her casket: “I never told you that I love you, but it’s true. It was always true.”

Chapter 25:
Even though it’s night Felicity bikes down to the car rental place and using her fake ID rents a car and drives to the cemetery where Alex’s grave is. Finding the snow disturbed she gets the shovel from the caretaker hut and digs up the grave. Opening the coffin she finds Alex inside.

Chapter 26:
Flashback to the night of the Halloween party. Alex is drunk and after Felicity tells her she’s embarrassing herself she starts yelling at Felicity about how crazy she is, using magic as an excuse to avoid any responsibility. Felicity retaliates, bringing up the teammate that Alex attacked. Alex leaves the house, Felicity chasing after her to the top of the ledge over the lake. They argue more, ending with Felicity pushing Alex, and because Alex is drunk she stumbles and falls.

Chapter 27:
It's not Alex in the coffin. It's Clara. Murdered and in a way that looks just like Flora’s death. Ellis must have done it and manipulated Felicity into returning to the cemetery. In a panic, Felicity reburies the coffin and gets back in the rental car, pulling to the side of the road a ways away. Someone calls, an unknown number from Georgia, but instead of answering she turns off her phone not wanting it to show her location. If the police knew she was there, they would think she killed Clara.

Chapter 28:
Back at Godwin Felicity showers and contemplates all the ways she could be implicated, and the fact that she hasn’t yet gone to the police. She knocks on Ellis’ door, but gets no answer. Back up in her room she screams into a pillow.

Ellis comes into Felicity's room and immediately admits she killed Clara, and it worked to help her finish her book. She also reveals just how perfectly she has framed Felicity for the murder, from her finger prints being on the rifle to placing her at the scene of the crime. She has covered all her tracks.

Questions:

  1. How do you think Felicity is going to disprove that she didn't murder Clara? Or do you think Clara's body will ever be discovered?
  2. Why do you think Leonie and Kajal seemed concerned about Felicity staying at Dalloway alone with Ellis? Do you think they knew something about Ellis that Felicity didn't?
  3. Do you think that this revelation from Ellis really will make Felicity believe there is no magic?
  4. Tomorrow is the final section of the book! Do you have any other predictions for the ending?
