Amber and I are BACK this October for a fun new readalong! We're about to start our monthly discussion for our August Adult book (recommended by those 18+), Masters Of Death by Olivie Blake!

As a reminder, from now on, our monthly discussions will be both here on the OwlCrate blog AND on The Nest! Go check out Amber's discussion that will be full of fun extra content!

On each day we'll read a section of Masters Of Death, both on the blog and in The Nest's group, and then discuss in the comments our theories and predictions. This means there will be spoilers for each section! Beware!

Just a reminder that this will be a SPOILER discussion for chapters 9-11 of Masters Of Death , so make sure you read or are finished this section before continuing.

I have no notes, all vibes. I'm thrilled.

Chapter 9:

Gabriel and Raphael are at work and discussing that Death has been shirking his duties. They decide that that probably isn't good and decide to pay him a visit.

•·················•·················•

They go to Death's house. A cavern below a magical tree and treehouse to find him...gone. They both agree that it's best that Death is found before either of the upstairs or downstairs boss's find out. So they decide to summon some help.

Chapter Ten:

Mayra is not quite awake and not quite asleep when she feels and hears a supplicant's wish. Wishes are dangerous and close to want and desire. Still Mayra considers that while she's out of miracles, some things only need a little push.

•·················•·················•

Elsewhere, Isis asks Violet what she wished for.

Chapter Eleven:

Fox arrives to the Parker Mansion and considers it's architecture. He's not one for finery that will rot away anymore but he can relate to its solitude.

•·················•·················•

Fox and Cal enter the mansion and agree to help despite Tom's protestations about nearly everything.

Violet asks Fox how he's going to be mediumy and he tells her that he's going to summon Death.

•·················•·················•

All the while, upstairs, Brandt is trying hard to rob the place until he hears a voice he never thought he would again.

•·················•·················•

Downstairs Fox is trying to summon Death in order to de-ghost Tom but he's not answering. Then Brandt shows up and says hello.

(here is a long segue regarding the last time that Fox and Brandt met, at which time Brandt had deathnapped Fox's godfather)

Violet recognizes Brandt from the open house as a buyer. Brandt apologizes as he wasn't there to buy. Mayra tries to rouse Fox from his apparent paralysis.

(we're then transported back into Fox's memory where Brandt tells him that he and Death are playing a game. Fox insists he tells him the rules but Brandt says that he's dangerous)

Brandt and Fox exchange thoughts but not words and everyone is puzzled as to their relationship. Then Mayra and Cal are summoned away and Fox again spirals into memory.

(Brandt tells Fox more of his godfather's addictions and the game they play. He offers Fox an immortal apple as well)

Back in the present, Violet accuses Fox of losing Death. Brandt disagrees and tells them, and Fox, that he wouldn't or couldn't be there if Death wasn't lost.

I'm not...entirely sure what's going on but I love it!

 Questions:

  1. What did Brandt do?
  2.

     What is the game?
  3. ...and where is Death?
