'Midnight Strikes' Book Club Readalong Day 4!

The Story Continues...

Chapter 10:
Anaïs finds Leo, telling him her story once more, and he stops her to make her think about what she truly wants to happen after, if she ever stops the attack from happening.

Chapter 11:
Using a forged note to get access to the palace to meet Leo, Anaïs is instead taken to Clara. Clara tells her that the family amulet Anaïs wears has powerful magic, though Anaïs has never felt it to be so. Anaïs tells Clara she knows she is engaged.

Instead of telling Clara of her time curse, Anaïs instead reveals what happens in the attack as a vision she has had. Clara believes her, and says she will convince her father of the same. In the meantime, Leo is to accompany Anaïs into the catacombs to look for the bombs.

In the catacombs they observe an intruder - but before they can get close Anaïs’ amulet begins to glow and burn. A door is flung wide open and before she can do anything else she is shot.

Chapter 12:
Anaïs confronts her mother about the amulet, and she finally gives in and reveals that centuries ago her ancestor had a child with a fairy, and that is where all Pronesan magic comes from. Using her family’s dagger, Anaïs pricks her finger and demands the locket reveal the truth. In it she sees her ancestors stuck in time. A vision appears, depicting Anaïs’ half fey human ancestor trying to destroy the locket, but failing. Anaïs thinks that on the first night of the attack all her blood somehow activated the locket, throwing her into a time loop.

At the ball that night Anaïs reveals to Gaspard what she learned from the mother and her locket. She spots a royal guard, who happens to be the same person who killed her in the catacombs. Feigning injury, she gets the guard to escort her from the ballroom, which is when Anaïs kills him. She uses her blessing to hide the mess of blood, but before she can clean the blood off of herself she is found by her mother, who of course doesn’t believe her, and time wasted the attack occurs once more.
