Chapter 23:
At the hospital in Chicago, Colton warns Delaney that the boy in the room isn’t Nate. Nate died leaving an empty body behind, and something else has crawled inside.

Chapter 24:
Inside the room Delaney turns off her implant, and in doing so can hear the thing that is not Nate speaking in her head. It claims that Nate invited it in - he wanted to live forever. The not Nate gets out of the hospital bed and attacks Delaney, choking her, before Colton drags it off, it tells them the game is in play.

In the hallway after a man tells Colton to get Delaney away.

Chapter 25:
They head to a hotel, Colton relatively sure they aren’t followed. Delaney gets a call from Mackenzie - they have been keeping tabs on Nate and he just checked out of the hospital.

Chapter 26:

The Apostle is leaving flowers for his dead wife, the haunt with him as always. He worked with Godbole as a means to try to bring her back, but Godbole backed out like a coward. But now he has Colton and the other students to do the work. The haunt is the possessed body of Devon Godbole.

Chapter 27:
Delaney is jolted awake from a nightmare to find Colton standing over her, asking her to tell him the time. They decide to watch TV, not feeling as if they can go back to sleep, and Colton tells her that every student at Godbole has had a brush with death, which is why they can do the things they do.

Chapter 28:
At the airport back home Delaney and Colton go their separate ways. Colton is picked up by Hayes, and in the car is also Meeker and Nate - but Nate is just Nate, alive if unwell. The thing that was in Nate is gone.

Chapter 29:
Delaney comes to standing in her living room at home, with no recollection of how she got there. Her parents welcome her in, and tell her someone named Colton Price has called many times since she got there. They tell her that Price was the last name of the boy who drowned in Walden Pond. She takes one of Colton’s calls and he reveals that he came back from the depth of Hell to her.
