'Threads That Bind' Book Club Readalong Day 7!

By: Jordan Fleming Photo By: @a.o.tales

Amber and I are BACK this July for a fun new readalong! We're about to start our monthly discussion for our June "If The Fates Allow" book, Threads That Bind by Kika Hatzopoulou!

As a reminder, from now on, our monthly discussions will be both here on the OwlCrate blog AND on The Nest! Go check out Amber's discussion that will be full of fun extras like bookish charades, shelf scavenger hunts and coloring pages!

On each day we'll read a section of Threads That Bind both on the blog and in The Nest's group, and then discuss in the comments our theories and predictions. This means there will be spoilers for each section! Beware!

Just a reminder that this will be a SPOILER discussion for chapters 30-33 of Threads That Bind, so make sure you read or are finished this section before continuing.

Chapter 30:

In Bianca's dream, Io and Edei watch as she slaughters her way through the rogue dream. As red mists enter the body of a girl and it allows her to keep fighting, Io realizes that Bianca is a keres-born using magic to keep bodies alive and fighting. Like wraiths.

Bianca has been the one making the wraiths.

Bianca notices Io and Edei in her dream and attacks them. They wake and realize that not only are they all asleep in the bed but Aris has found them with police officers.

They take Bianca into custody.

Chapter 31:

Thais wakes Io up to the news from the papers that Bianca has been outed as a keres-born and an expose on Bianca's involvement in the Moonset Riots.

Io goes downstairs and gets coffee and a pastry from Amos. Edei is there and Thais asks Io when their being together happened.

Io responds that Edei has a girlfriend...and he responds back that he actually doesn't...and hasn't for a year.

The group discusses the Silts and the ramifications of how taking Bianca away as their queen may have on the community. Io asks why the papers have not reported on the wraiths and she learns that it's because Bianca has not confessed to the crime.

Io wonders if Bianca may actually be innocent of the killings. She asks Edei if he remembers the girl in Bianca's dream, Nina, the same girl who was having an affair with the man who was attacked.

Thais, Ava and Io argue about Luc's involvement. Thais challenges Io to get to the bottom of her theories and Io takes her up on the offer.

Chapter 32:

Io and Edei travel to Nina's apartment and discuss her and Bianca. Io is warned that the Fortuna will try to avenge Bianca or break her out of custody.

A young child answers them through the door but will not open it for them. Io and Edei talk about Io's moira-born abilities. They kiss but Edei pulls away. Io asks him why and he tells her that feelings may be a by-product of the fate-thread.

Edei tells her that he's known about her for about a year and assumes that Io hasn't wanted anything to do with him. She explains back that she didn't want to interfere with his relationship. She shares that she was worried he'd resent her for not cutting the thread.

Io asks Edei if he would like her to cut the thread. She feels as though it's penance.

The thought of penance spurs Io into remembering what the wraiths said about it. She decides that she needs to find Nina immediately and runs. Nina is rounding the stairs and Io asks her what crimes she's committed and who she killed during the Riots.

Io learns that the rogue group that Bianca had killed was in fact, the fury-born. The wraiths are taking vengeance for the genocide of their line. They're fury-born...and Bianca was a victim.

Chapter 33:

Io and Edei run to the holding cell where Bianca is found with her life thread severed. Io realizes that she needs to get to the bottom of everything and decides to go to the Nine for help.

Outside, Saint-Yves has won the election.

Io and Edei get Bianca out through the gates to the house of Nine. She tells the guard to get the Nine and that she'll do anything they ask.

They're immediately let into the mansion where Clio asks Io if she's there to pay her debt. Edei demands they stop playing games and help them.

It's then that Bianca gets out of their grasp. Io awakes to slaughter.

Well, that all escalated quickly...

As a kind reminder, our book clubs are now eight days long and we still have a ton of fun content over on The Nest. You'll have to wait til tomorrow to see how this all plays out...

 Questions:

  1. 🧐Do you think the Furies are back?
  2. 🧵Who do you think severed Bianca’s life thread?
  3. 🕰️It feels like Io and Edei are 5 steps behind every time they think they have this all sorted out. What do you think? Was taking Bianca to the Nine the right move? Never miss a box! Subscribe to OwlCrate today with code OCBLOG15 to save 15% on a new subscription!
