'Together We Burn' Book Club Readalong Day 5!

Welcome back to the fifth day of our book club readalong for OwlCrate's June book, Together We Burn!

The story continues...

Chapter 21:
Arturo wants them to seek cover, but Zarela has other ideas. Sprinting to the stables she jumps on a horse, Arturo jumping on behind her, and races into Santivilla, trying to help in whatever way possible. The dragon causes utter destruction. Zarela helps Señora Montenegro escape her burning home, but she has inhaled too much smoke. In her dying breaths she tells Zarela that “he” won’t stop until her father is destroyed.

After the dragon has left a mob forms, toppling the statue of Zarela’s father. Arturo protects her as they slowly retreat.

Chapter 22:
As expected, Zarela is summoned to the Gremio the next day to answer for what happened.

Chapter 23:
Before the members of the Gremio, Don Eduardo does not allow Zarela to state her case, instead issuing a vote to remove La Giralda from Zarela’s family and cast them out of the Gremio. Zarela is shocked to find that Arturo is a senior member. Just before the vote is cast Zarela’s father enters the room and begs the members to consider his legacy. The vote is cast, and almost unanimously they vote to remove their family, but Zarela’s father appeals, asking that if they can host one last dragon fight at La Giralda safely, that it will remain with their family. When Don Eduardo asks who their Dragonador will be, Zarela yells Arturo. It turns out that Arturo is Don Edaurdo’s nephew, and all this time has had access to their dragons. To her surprise, Arturo confirms that he will fight, and upon another vote the members agree to let the appeal happen.

Chapter 24:
The next day at La Giralda Lola comes running into the kitchen with news - the dragon has been caught and returned caged to the Gremio, one assumes by Arturo.

Zarela meets with Arturo to train and she tells him that she lied. It won’t be him that fights, it will be her. It was her only move left. They train.

Chapter 25:
It’s three days before the fight, and Zarela decides to practice dancing before her training with Arturo. As she dances, music starts to play, and when she looks up she finds Arturo. Today she will practice against a real dragon.

Arturo brings out the Morcego dragon and Zarela gets to work. Before she can get much done she trips and falls, the dragon now leering over her. Arturo starts playing music, distracting the dragon, so Zarela can slowly get to her feet, but something takes over. Instead of fleeing, Zarela starts dancing, and to their surprise the dragon dances with her. Arturo keeps playing and eventually Zarela slips to safety while Arturo takes the dragon back to its cage.
