Chapter 26:
A mob of hundreds of people, led by Martina, forms outside of La Giralda protesting the upcoming fight. Zarela attempts to go outside to face them, but Arturo intervenes.
Chapter 27:
The next morning Zarela’s father appears at her door, telling her to come with him. He takes her outside, where La Giralda has been badly vandalized by the Asociación. Everyone, including Arturo, comes together to clean the mess, passersby jeering at them as they do so.
Later that evening, they all come together to eat and drink, Arturo joining them. Eventually, Zarela’s father tells Arturo it’s time he leaves, and once he does tells Zarela that Arturo is not for her. He also suggests it’s time for them to find a new place to live, to cancel the fight, perhaps Zarela find someone to marry. Zarela leaves in anger, needing to get out, and in the stables comes across Arturo. He mounts his horse and puts his hand out to her, pulling her up in front of him.
Chapter 28:
Arturo takes her not to the ranch as she expected, but into the woods to the mouth of a cave. Here he has been both living and nurturing a dragon that he found as an egg, now fully grown. Telling Zarela to keep calm, he climbs onto the dragon’s back, convincing Zarela to get on with him. They fly, but when they land Arturo rejects her after a kiss, but begs her to stay and talk to him as a friend.
Chapter 29:
They talk, revealing to each other some facts about themselves. Zarela “spends the night.” ;) He tells her he has a secret that he will reveal to her after the fight.
Chapter 30:
Zarela awakes the next morning to the dragon reentering the cave, falling asleep beside them. Zarela has an idea - instead of fighting the dragon in the ring, she will dance with it.
