Amber and I are BACK this September for a fun new readalong! We're about to start our monthly discussion for our August YA book, Omen Of Ice by Jus Accardo!

As a reminder, from now on, our monthly discussions will be both here on the OwlCrate blog AND on The Nest! Go check out Amber's discussion that will be full of fun extras like bookish charades, shelf scavenger hunts and coloring pages!

On each day we'll read a section of Omen Of Ice, both on the blog and in The Nest's group, and then discuss in the comments our theories and predictions. This means there will be spoilers for each section! Beware!

Just a reminder that this will be a SPOILER discussion for chapters 21-25 of Omen Of Ice, so make sure you read or are finished this section before continuing.

The kelpie is my current fav character which means that he's probably gonna get yeeted, right?

Chapter Twenty-One (Keltania):

Daroose brings Valen and Keltania the golden chest. Keltania takes a necklace out and the kelpie puts it around his neck.

They head back to the bridge where crows are circling and the kelpie asks Keltania how many druids are left.  Keltania replies that there is one village left and the kelpie keeps asking intrusive questions.

They get to the bridge and the trolls are furious, feeling like they've been tricked. Valen explains that their terms were that they had to bring the chest back, and they have. The troll male agrees that no terms were broached and allows Valen and Keltania to pass. The kelpie, the troll says, has to take off his necklace to pass.

The kelpie takes his necklace off...and hands it to Keltania. And then asks to pass.

They allow them to go across the bridge but the trolls warn them against bringing the kelpie to them ever again.

Chapter Twenty-Two (Valen):

Keltania tries to give the kelpies necklace back but it keeps coming back. She's its master for a year and can command it.

Its shape shifts into a horse, an excellent mode of travel.

They set up camp for the night. Valen flirts with Keltania and ends up embracing. It's a lot of emotions and sensations for them both and they talk about their lives after they pull apart.

They talk again about their bond and are committed to figuring it out. Valen warns Keltania against trusting the kelpie and then they fall asleep.

Chapter Twenty-Three (Keltania):

Keltania sleeps fitfully and awakes to a plethora of creatures surrounding their camp. The whole camp is alive with vibrant plants and the animals are bowing to them.

Keltania asks Valen to think about a lush forest and magic spreads out from them. In a moment, everything is green. Valen realizes that fae and druid bound together is what is healing the land.  Daroose awakens and is cheeky, asking about their bond and whether he can snack on fae, with the answer from Keltania being no.

They break camp and hike for the better part of the day, with Daroose asking questions about the world, the fae and the druids.

Keltania is woozy and almost passes out. Daroose says he thinks she may benefit from some help and they take her to a friend of his.

Daroose leads them west for an hour and then sets a fire. Several fae come out of the clearing to take them to Vey Brill.

Chapter Twenty-Four (Valen):

They are taken to a lush city unaffected by the Great Drain and when asked, the fae admits that they are unaffiliated with a court. They take Keltania up a spiralling tree to see a fae named Delkin who is shocked to see Valen. They share the same violet eyes.

Delkin is Valne's father.

Valen is furious as his father asks him where his mother is. He has to admit that she's dead. Valen learns that his mother lived there, in Vey Brill. Happily in love with Delkin.

He learns that there are other fae and humans in the village, and the Keltania has been sent to meet them.

Chapter Twenty-Five (Keltania):

Keltania meets Ander, a human living in Vey Brill, who is descended from other humans who have lived with Delkin for many years.

She's shown the village and told about how it's thrived without outside interference for many hundreds of years. Keltania meets the other villagers and learns how they are self sufficient. Valen and Delkin meet Keltania and she's introduced to his father.

Keltania finds a bird flying overhead and asks it to quietly deliver a message to her leader who is making her way to Ventin.

 Questions:

  2.

🦉The animals are bowing down to Valen and Keltania. What do you think about this?
