ABOUT THE ROLE

Product Dev. Assistant

OwlCrate is seeking a Product Development Assistant to join our growing team! We are seeking a highly engaged member of the bookish community to join our team and contribute to the creative process of bringing our bookish boxes and limited edition books to the world.

The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, and can effectively communicate ideas, manage overlapping time sensitive deadlines, and knows that it’s the small details that really bring a project together.

Who You'll Be working With

In this role, you will work directly with our Product Development team to help bring bookish projects to life! You’ll need to be willing and excited to read books and assist with projects across various genres (Fantasy, Romantasy, Young Adult Fantasy, Horror, Science Fiction, and Contemporary Romance), as we will require someone who can jump between departments to lend a hand wherever needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL

You will be actively assisting the rest of the Product Development team at OwlCrate with their ongoing projects. The work can vary depending on the project, but some duties you can anticipate doing involve:

  • Reading books and manuscripts for research and review purposes
  • Assisting with brainstorming art ideas for our subscription books and limited edition books
  • Putting together pitch decks and proposals for projects
  • Researching independent artists and small businesses to work with
  • Communicating with artists directly for design work for books/items
  • Communicating directly with publishers, authors, and literary agencies
  • Compiling content/information for product launches, social media posts, etc
  • Keeping a close eye on the online book community for feedback as well as new and exciting book trends for the team to explore
  • Being an active participant in our bookish community platforms, especially Instagram/TikTok and the Nest App (please be comfortable stepping in front of the camera from time to time!)
REQUIREMENTS

You Might BE OUR PERSON IF YOU...

  • Love reading both backlist and new release books across multiple genres
  • Have a passion for art and artists in the bookish space
  • Value being a team player and helping others make things happen behind-the-scenes
  • Have an eye for design, typography, and the fine details
  • Feel a rush hitting a deadline on time and helping others do the same

Bonus Points If You have:

  • Experience with design programs such as Illustrator, Adobe, PhotoShop, etc
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Fantastic time management skills and the ability to successfully meet deadlines
  • Familiarity with business/project management tools such as GSuite, Slack, Notion, Asana, Basecamp

This is a permanent, remote position open to anyone worldwide, with strong written and verbal communication skills and willing to regularly attend meetings during working hours in Pacific or Eastern time. We are ideally seeking a full time hire, but will work with the right candidate on flexibility for personal needs. Please note that if you live outside of Canada, you will join our team as an Independent Contractor.

The target salary for this role is $55,000 (Canadian Dollars), or equivalent in local currency. Applications outside of this scope are welcome, please identify this in your application.
